This is an exercise within a meditation. Here, you will feel what it is like to integrate anxiety into your experience rather than reject it. Anxiety is not a “bad” emotion. It is an unpleasant one because we have been taught it is bad and we should avoid it at all costs but when we choose to integrate it, something beautiful happens -- we no longer fear anxiety because we understand it is part of us. It is not who we are. Enjoy this amazing practice of integration!

Go ahead and find a comfortable seat.

Closing your eyes.

And start to breathe.

Inhale.

And exhale.

Inhale.

And exhale.

Tapping into all three layers of consciousness.

Do you want to resolve this?

On a scale of 1% to 100%,

How strong is your desire to solve this?

Are you 100% sure that you want to solve this?

Okay.

And if you answered yes and 100% to all these questions,

Go ahead and start forming an image in your mind's eye that represents whatever you're experiencing.

In this case,

We'll go with anxiety.

An image,

A figure,

A gift.

Describe it.

And you can say it out loud if you're in the privacy of your own company.

Say out loud,

What color is it?

What's the texture like?

Does it make any sounds?

What does it smell like?

What does it taste like?

Any other details that you want to share out loud with yourself,

Go ahead and do so right now.

And remember that you can pause,

Stop this recording whenever you want to.

Now place your attention on this image.

Take a deep breath in and a deep breath out.

Ask it what it needs to go away.

And tell it that you're open to listening and that you are ready to receive whatever it has to tell you.

What did the figure say?

Take a moment to write this down if you want to.

And once this figure is done talking to you,

Notice if it changed.

Is the figure still there?

If you can no longer see this figure,

It's because the anxiety has left.

It left because you saw it,

You felt it,

And you paid attention to it.

You listened to what it had to say.

And that's all it wanted.

Now tell it what you are committed to do in order for it to go away in peace.

What are you willing to negotiate?

And maybe it's the same negotiation that you had at the beginning when we first did this.

Or maybe it's a new type of negotiation you want to have this time.

Speak to it in first person.

Do you have anything else that you want to tell the image?

If it's even there anymore.

Take your time.

Now that you have completed this exercise,

How do you feel?

What words can you use to describe how you feel?

And be with this for a moment.

Let it anchor into your body.

Breathe it in.

This was what it feels like to live in a place of ease,

Where you get to befriend anxiety instead of fight it,

Instead of resisting it,

Instead of over-analyzing it.

Let your body feel all of it and just bask in this tranquil,

Calming place.

Take as much time as you need to be here.

And when you're ready,

Just begin to bring yourself back,

Opening the eyes very gently and slowly,

Taking however much time you need to come back.

Take as much time as you need to come back.

Take as much time as you need to come back.

Take as much time as you need to come back.

Take as much time as you need to come back.

Take as much time as you need to come back.

Take as much time as you need to come back.

Take as much time as you need to come back.
