A meditation to efficiently reset your nervous system. This belly breath meditation was taught to me by Tibetan monk, Tsoknyi Rinpoche. He affectionately called it the “French Press” meditation because he wanted us to follow the exhale breath down into the belly in the same slow way the hand held coffee maker pushed the grinds to the bottom. Now somatic therapists and researchers know that a belly breath also connects with your vagal nerve, and you can reset your nervous system with just a few of these breaths. This meditation meditation combines breathing into the belly and grounding in stillness.

Beginning the meditation by feeling your body sitting and taking a normal in-breath.

And as you breathe out,

Just feeling the breath drop down into your belly.

Normal in-breath.

And let the breath drop all the way down.

See how low you can go into the belly with the breath.

And continuing this process of normal in-breath.

Letting the out-breath just drop as low as you can go.

Way at the bottom of the spine and the belly.

Just dropping all the way down like an elevator.

Letting yourself feel the very bottom of the breath.

So as the breath drops down,

Just feeling it go as low as it can go.

And then there's a pause at the bottom of the breath.

Just feeling that.

Going for a few more breaths where you just normal in-breath.

Dropping as low as you can go.

Pausing.

Feeling that pause.

And letting yourself just fully relax each time you drop down.

See if you can relax something even deeper in your body.

See if you can let something unwind or uncontract.

Sinking deeper into the body with each out-breath.

And every time you do this going deep with your out-breath,

It's just letting your parasympathetic nervous system relax more and more.

Unburdening any stress you might be carrying.

And rewiring your brain to relax and trust.

Feeling each breath that you feel all the way down into the belly.

Just rewire your whole nervous system.

Feeling that breath all the way down.

As low as it can go.

And as you start to breathe in this way you might notice there's a bit of a feeling of stillness.

And moving your attention a bit away from the breathing,

Although obviously it'll still be there.

Just this sense of stillness that you might feel in your belly or your solar plexus.

And sensing into that stillness that's here.

The breath might be in the background and letting the stillness just come forward.

Expanding it.

Deepening it.

At the center of your being in your body you have a still point.

Right here right now you have a still point of all eternity exists in your body.

Letting yourself feel into this still point of eternity right here right now.

Seeing if you can relax even deeper into this still point.

Let it be all of you.

Let this stillness at the center of your being in your belly.

Let it imbue every cell,

Every muscle,

Your bone.

Let it fully embody every cell of your body right now,

Right here.

And each breath that you take is part of this stillness that you are.

Really locking in and feeling this stillness in your body,

Letting it claim you.

Surrendering to it fully,

Completely right now.

As you breathe let yourself just be the stillness.

And as you begin to come out of the meditation I'm going to carry this stillness with you that you can feel and the ability to feel the breath in the belly you're going to carry that with you.

So making a commitment here and now that you won't forget this.

And that when you go back out into the world of time and functioning in the world of time that you will embody this stillness.

That you'll always remember it's here in every action,

Every word,

Every deed,

Every movement will come from this ground of stillness that you know is always here.

Lovely quick meditation to reset. I’m using this as my 10 minute “real rest” during recovery from surgery and the fatigue that accompanied it and it’s been really helpful.

So simple and easy but brought me to tears. I couldn’t figure out the emotion beneath my nervous/anger until I did this meditation and the tears flowed. Thank you for this.

Interesting bottom of the breath. Found that by pushing to the bottom as much as I can made me have to take a deeper breath in on occasion . Funny never thought much of exhale as I did with deep inhaling. THANK YOU.

Definitely doing this one again and again. I have a lot to work on physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually until I am functioning at optional performance. Feeling good and calm.
