So good morning,
Welcome to this meditation which today is all going to be around the Muladhara Chakra.
The Muladhara Chakra is the first of the seven chakras and it's all about the root.
So our center of feeling grounded,
Our center of feeling supported.
As we go through today we're going to explore that in various ways.
But to begin I invite you just to get comfortable in your seat.
So take a moment and see if there's anything that you need.
You need to have a little stretch,
Have a little wiggle,
Bring in a little bit of movement.
Maybe you roll the shoulders or maybe you roll the neck.
Just doing what you need.
And then eventually just beginning to find a tall spine.
So just beginning to lengthen through the back of the head,
Backing the pelvis,
The shoulders and the back of the head to find that lovely length of the spine.
And then from there just begin to notice how are you feeling today.
Trying to not judge that what comes up but just having a little check-in.
Are you full of energy?
Are you feeling peaceful?
Are you feeling restless?
All of these things are fully welcome.
They are all part of our very human experiences that we go through each day.
So just allow,
Know that all of these things they come and go as easily as the weather changes.
From here just begin to deepen and notice the breath.
It's the breath coming in through the nose and out through the nose.
As you take these breaths in and out through the nose,
Notice what moves in the body to let that breath in.
The breath is a dynamic movement.
The belly,
The ribs,
The chest,
The back,
They all expand to make room for that air coming.
So just take a moment to notice that.
Every inhale,
The belly,
The ribs,
The chest,
The back all expands like a balloon and with every exhale let go.
And just noticing with the breath today,
Are you able to focus on the breath with ease or is there a lot going on mentally?
Allowing those fluctuations of each day,
Not resisting what's happening in this moment,
But drawing back to the breath as many times as you remember to do so.
As we go through our practice today and explore the Muladhara chakra,
The root center,
The color of this energy center is red.
We'll work a little bit with this red energy to begin.
So just imagine above your head you can sense,
Feel or see in your mind's eye a bright red luminous light.
The color of protection,
Of safety and with this light we're going to take a body scan and we're going to slowly move this light,
This energy,
This visual image through the body.
So slowly begin to draw that bright red light down to the top of the head,
Scalp,
All the way down to the forehead,
The eyebrows,
The eyes,
The ears,
The nose,
The mouth,
The back of the head,
The jaw,
All the way down to the neck,
Shoulder blades,
Collarbones.
This luminous red light keeps continuing,
Filling up the whole body as it goes.
It moves down towards the heart,
The ribcage,
All the vital organs that it houses,
Down to the belly,
The lower back,
Noticing also the arms,
The elbows,
The wrists,
The palm of both hands,
Fingers,
The thumbs.
This luminous red light continues to move down the hips,
Pelvis,
The upper legs,
All the way to the knees,
Shins,
The calves,
The ankles,
The sole of the foot,
And the toes.
So really being present with the whole body filled with this luminous red light.
Keeping that presence that we've cultivated through that.
We're going to begin just to count the breath.
It's going to be a box breath today.
That's an equal breath and we'll start with just an inhale and an exhale and then we'll add in a hold.
This breath is often also called Samavrittis in Sanskrit.
So from there the breath is going to be coming in and out through the nose.
We're going to take an inhale for the count of four but don't worry if the count of four is too much.
Feel free to find your own count.
And from there we're going to inhale for four,
Three,
Two,
One.
Exhale for three,
Two,
One.
Inhale for three,
Two,
One.
Exhale for three,
Two,
One.
Inhale for three,
Two,
One.
Exhale for three,
Two,
One.
Inhale for three,
Two,
One.
Exhale for three,
Two,
One.
Inhale for three,
Two,
One.
Exhale for three,
Two,
One.
Inhale for exhale for inhale for exhale for inhale for exhale for inhale for exhale for inhale for four exhale for four inhale for exhale for keep that breath going at your own pace.
Inhaling for four and exhaling for four.
See how it would feel to add a pause at the top of the inhale and at the bottom of the exhale.
This can be a short pause.
It could be for the count of two.
It could be for the count of four.
Guide yourself here.
If you're not sure what to do,
Try and inhale for four.
A hold for two.
Out for four and hold for two.
Leave you for a few moments to explore that counted breath.
So so so so It's gradually beginning to let that counted breath go.
Beginning to draw that awareness all the way back down to that base of the spine.
The Mooladhara Chakra.
Maybe here you see or sense or with your mind's eye place a bright red either a center of energy like a glowing ball.
It could be a flower with red petals like a lotus flower.
Just hold the awareness there.
I'm going to run through some affirmations that help support,
Strengthen,
Balance the root chakra.
So we'll start with I am safe.
I am rooted.
The earth provides for me.
My needs are met.
I trust life.
I allow feelings of peace to flow.
I am supported.
I trust the universe to support me.
I am safe.
I am rooted.
The earth provides for me.
My needs are met.
I trust life.
I allow feelings of peace to flow.
I am supported.
I trust the universe to support me.
Just keep your focus,
Keep your awareness on that visualization at the root of the spine.
The Mooladhara chakra.
Notice what thoughts,
What feelings arise from here.
When we feel balanced in the root chakra.
We feel at ease,
We feel supported.
But when we don't,
We can feel like we need more.
We can feel that we're grasping or reaching for things that make us feel safe or give us that sense of safety.
Whereas when it's balanced,
The energy just flows in and out.
We know that things will come and go.
We don't have to grasp or reach.
We feel supported and grounded.
Each of these chakras has a sound,
A mantra,
A Bija mantra,
A seed mantra that goes with it.
And the seed sound for this center is LUM.
LUM.
LUM.
So with the next few moments,
I want you to just say that sound LUM over and over in your head or out loud.
It's just the sound LUM.
You can sync it with the breath saying LUM on every inhale and exhale.
Or you can just simply let your mind be focused,
Become absorbed in this sound LUM.
Using it as a point of focus for our meditation.
And then we can just go far enough,
Whenever the mind wanders,
We just come back to this one point of LUM.
LUM.
LUM.
Don't worry if you forget the word,
The sound.
It might evolve through its repetition.
Sound is LUM.
LUM.
LUM.
LUM.
As we keep repeating the sound LUM,
Noticing where and when the mind wanders away.
See if there's patterns to those thoughts,
If it's going to the same place,
Repeating the same thoughts.
Let them go with the mantra LUM.
LUM returns that center.
LUM.
Knowing that when we work on these centers individually,
Things might come up that relate to them,
Might feel supported,
Nourished,
Safe.
Like you can let go because you know that you're supported.
But equally here,
Fears might rise,
Anything that comes up.
Maybe it's a little nagging thought,
A feeling,
Something that's stopping you feeling supported and relaxed in this energy center.
It's okay,
Hold it.
Allow it,
Get to know it.
Just keep coming back to that mantra LUM.
The next part of our practice,
I'm going to invite you to use a sound.
We're going to repeat the mantra LUM really quickly for a few moments,
And then we're going to use that to drop towards silence for the last part of our meditation.
Once we find our way to silence,
You can keep with the mantra LUM,
But we're going to say it out loud really quickly for about a minute to guide us into that space.
If you don't want to join in here,
That's no problem.
You can just listen to the sounds I make with this mantra.
If you do want to join in,
Please do.
From there,
We're just going to begin to repeat the word LUM.
LUM.
Can't be stopping.
Finding your way to silence for the last couple of minutes of our practice.
I'll keep the time.
You can hold the mantra.
LUM.
LUM.
LUM.
LUM.
Gently bringing that focus back,
Letting that mantra go.
We're going to take a big breath in through the nose.
Sigh it out through the mouth.
Take a moment.
Maybe you want to join me in bringing the palms together.
Prayer position at the heart,
Thumbs resting on the heart center,
Heart center rising to the thumbs.
Just take a moment to pause in gratitude,
Maybe feeling that connection to that rooted energy.
Maybe carrying that with you through your day.
Maybe thanking yourself for taking this time to show up for meditation.
A practice that really invites you to sit with what is on this day.
And thank you for choosing me to guide you through this morning's practice.
Thank you.
