I'm Jenny Kellogg,
And today I'm going to be talking to you about the fascinating history of the term Akashic Records.
The Meaning of the Term Akashic Records Let's shed some light on this often-used but little-understood metaphysical term.
Akasha is a Sanskrit word meaning pure,
Undimensioned space,
And it comes from the word for void,
Ka.
Ancient Indian metaphysics and later Buddhist metaphysics taught that all creation arises from the Akasha or undifferentiated space.
The Akasha intrinsically holds the potential for all life,
Including every soul and matter to arise.
In English,
We have taken the word Akasha and made it a descriptive adjective,
Akashic.
Something that is Akashic is of this pure space,
Or of this ancient metaphysical concept.
The Akashic Records are a transcription of all that has ever existed or might possibly exist within pure space.
They hold the record of what has existed and the potential for what might exist.
As far as I can tell,
We only use the word Akashic with the phrase Akashic Records,
And to denote something pertaining to the Akashic Records.
Erwin Laszlo has renamed the Akashic Records the Akashic Field,
Attempting to update the term and incorporate it into the latest thinking about theoretical physics.
The History of the Akashic Records The idea of the Akashic Records was first introduced with the work of Helena Blavatsky and her church,
The Theosophical Society.
The Theosophists came up with the term Akashic Record from reading Buddhist scriptures.
Blavatsky popularized channeling,
Claiming to have a psychic mediumship connection to deceased spiritual teachers and unseen realms.
Blavatsky and her successors are controversial figures for their appropriation of eastern spiritual traditions,
Coercive methods,
And racial theories.
The great American psychic Edgar Cayce stated that he accessed the Akashic Records in his readings.
Cayce was known as the sleeping prophet because he would fall into an unconscious trance,
Give his readings,
And then awake not knowing what he said.
One of Cayce's sources for his psychic readings was the Akashic Records,
Which he described as,
Quote,
The record that the individual entity itself writes upon the skein of time and space through patience and is opened when self has attuned to the infinite.
Cayce's prolific output and popularity brought greater visibility to the concept of the Akashic Records as a database of information about all sorts of topics,
Health,
History,
Secret mystical teachings,
And the nature of reality.
The term Akashic Records has been a part of the American imagination and New Age teachings since the early 1990s.
Several generations of psychics and teachers have developed methods to access or read the Akashic Records through prayer,
Meditation,
And psychic techniques.
These days there are a myriad of Akashic Records practitioners exploring this resource for the purposes of personal growth,
Business success,
And understanding the mysteries of our existence.
Definition of the Akashic Records Here is my definition of the Akashic Records,
Based on the history and usage of the term Akashic.
This definition is adapted from the Akashic Alliance introductory teachings on the Akashic Records.
The Akashic Records are a resource to help you to better understand yourself,
Others,
And all that is.
This resource includes every thought,
Word,
Deed,
Emotion,
And intention of your soul in all its lifetimes,
Past,
Present,
And future.
The Akashic Records or Akashic Field is part of each soul as it enters into the body.
This field is a storehouse of information and contains the journey of the individual's soul.
It also contains information about all other souls and remembers when you were part of the one.
An individual's mind may not have access to all of this information,
But the soul is the keeper of all.
The Term Akashic Records in Western Thought Although the term Akashic may be obscure,
It denotes a concept that Western Christian culture doesn't really contain,
And that is undifferentiated space imbued with pure potential.
The closest we have to this idea is the phrase from John 1.
1,
In the beginning was the Word,
And the Word was with God,
And the Word was God.
There is a long history of dispute in the Christian Church about this line,
But I take it to mean that before God created anything,
He was the Word and suffused with the Word.
And the Word is Logos in Greek.
It's interesting that we use the phrase the Akashic Records to denote something primordial and divine that can be read,
Like a word.
And indeed,
Many people conceive of the Akashic Records as a library filled with books of life,
An idea popularized by Edgar Cayce.
Accessing or reading the Akashic Records,
Then,
Is a way to access the Logos,
Or Word,
Of the Divine.
Thank you.
