How coaching can help clean up the undercurrent of life. My undercurrent is much clearer now since I've engaged my intuition. What you see is what you get with me. But it hasn't always been this way. I lived under a mucky mess for years. I built an arsenal of fears, anxiety, Should Shiels, and so much more until I started to clear out my undercurrent, unpack the boxes of crap I've been storing in my mind, body, and soul for years. Hello,
Welcome back.
So I skipped last week.
It's not like me to do that,
But I used up my backlogs and life happens.
And here I am out of town and recording in a whole new environment,
A whole new state,
A whole new coast.
I live in Little Rock and we're in South Carolina because we're transitioning my mother in law into assisted living and it doesn't just happen,
Especially during COVID-19.
So it's been a little bit challenging,
But we're,
You know,
Working things out and things are getting a little bit easier,
But we also did have the opportunity to get out of town.
So here we are.
Well,
On the road trip,
Because it took about 11 hours to get here,
I had this,
The many pings,
My intuition was pinging with many things I wrote down,
But one of them was that I needed to see if Patrick would let me record him playing his cello.
Now Patrick is a 13 year old boy going on 43.
I've known him since he was like six months old because his mom,
Melanie is one of my very,
Very dear friends.
She's one of my tribes.
She's one of my go-tos.
So I've known this sweet,
Sweet old soul for,
For many,
Many years.
Well,
I was able to record Patrick playing his cello last week,
And I'm actually going to close out the episode with the piece that he played,
Which is beautiful.
But as he was playing,
It wasn't just this beautiful moment of me being able to sit in his presence and listen to him play and,
And,
You know,
Record too,
Which was awesome.
But it was also like a telling moment.
It kind of unlocked some things and pulled back layer and it was just,
It was really a wonderful moment.
Well,
Patrick played a piece and it's called undercurrent,
Hence the title of this episode.
And boy,
Did this resonate with me so much so that I had to pause after a recording session and look up the definition of undercurrent.
Now undercurrent is the current below the surface,
Like hidden opinion,
Feeling,
Or tendency often opposite to the one publicly displayed,
Which basically means we all have an undercurrent.
And with the pandemic,
I feel many are seeing,
Feeling and awakening to what they've created and are storing under their own currents,
Right?
Can you maybe resonate with that?
Can you sit with that for a minute?
Well,
I know my undercurrent is crystal clear water.
Now it's just,
It's clear.
What you see is what you get with me.
That's how I roll,
But it hasn't always been this way.
I lived under a mucky mess for years.
I built up an arsenal of fears and anxieties and should shields and so much more until I started to clear out my undercurrent.
I basically started unpacking boxes of crap that I had been storing in my mind,
My body and my soul for years.
And now I'm no longer hiding anything.
It doesn't mean I'm publicly going to announce everything about me,
But I'm not hiding behind those things any longer.
I'm more comfortable in my skin.
I'm more comfortable with who I am.
So what might be in your undercurrent?
What's below your surface?
What opinions are you hiding behind?
Maybe why do you feel like you need to hide?
That's a difficult question for a lot of people to answer.
Are you maybe exhausted from living so that someone else you know is comfortable because that's what you were taught?
You know,
How many times have we were like,
Oh,
We've got to wear this because it's a certain day and a certain time and so and so is going to feel better if I do that.
Or,
You know,
I've got to behave this way.
I can't tell them the whole story.
I've got to keep the secret or whatever.
It all happens,
Right?
It's life.
Well,
What shoulds or expect expectations are you using as a shield to avoid reality?
Oh,
That's a big question,
Isn't it?
Right?
What shoulds or expectations are you using as a shield to avoid reality?
Here's a big question.
Do you have a closet full of masks?
Oh,
I know I used to I don't anymore.
So do you wear a different mask when you're with your husband,
Your partner,
Maybe with your kids,
Your friends,
Your parents,
Your co workers,
Grandparents,
Strangers,
Maybe when you go to the doctor's office,
Wherever you go,
Like do you have a different mask that you wear with different people?
Well,
These masks can lead to living behind so many lies,
And then it just really becomes very difficult to manage all of them,
Which leads to anxiety and fear and all sorts of other crap,
Right?
What is flipping around in your undercurrent?
Well,
These questions are some of the things that I tackle in my intuitive coaching sessions.
So we all have stuff,
Everybody,
We all have stuff,
We're always gonna have stuff,
Right?
I mean,
It is whether we're packing boxes inside of boxes inside of boxes,
And I got this,
This,
The whole box theme came to me once when I was with a client,
She had so many boxes,
But she kept rearranging the boxes instead of just opening the box to see what was maybe inside of the box.
Well,
It's not all necessarily bad.
And some of us are definitely more introverted and private.
But we all have stuff.
And not all the stuff needs to be in packed,
Unless it's holding us back,
Right?
Some of the stuff holds us back.
But some of the things that we've been carrying around might just need to be tossed,
Just thrown away,
Which is called acknowledging and forgiving.
And this is one of the many things that I teach in my sessions,
And I'm actually writing a course on this,
Just to help people acknowledge,
Release,
Forgive,
There is a way to do that,
Which makes things more effortless in the future.
And it allows us not to hold on to too much.
So there you go.
Maybe I'll check that one out.
Now what opinions are you hiding behind?
Are they your opinions or someone else's?
Oh,
That's a good question.
This is what I call the should shields of life.
You have a list of what others should be doing or being Do you have that list?
Well,
You should be doing this and you should be doing that or you should be you'd be better off being that Well,
Guess what I've had a list too.
I in my past thought gosh,
You know,
This person should be doing this.
You should be doing that.
And you know why?
Because we're taught that because people have put those should shields on us too.
So maybe you're trying to live up to another person's shoulds of what you should be doing or feeling or being right?
We've all done it back and forth.
It is a thing.
Well,
Here's another idea of the should shields maybe you're hanging around a confidence crusher,
But it's all you know.
So you continue to crush your own confidence because it's what you've been taught.
And maybe now it's just become a habit.
This can lead to a person becoming a broken record of I'm sorry.
How many people know someone who gets stuck and I'm sorry,
They're sorry for everything and most of it has absolutely nothing to do with them.
But you hear the broken record of I'm sorry for things that have nothing to do with them,
But they feel like they should be sorry for everything.
And I just know in my past experience,
These people can be very,
Very exhausting,
Very exhausting.
Well,
Can you see your future?
Or you know what you need?
But you're allowing the should shields to stop you.
Right?
We've all done it.
We've either stopped ourselves or we're desperately trying to stop somebody else.
And you know what,
We can't hold on to what somebody else's journey needs to be.
They have to they have to go down that path.
Well,
I can tell you there is a single thread that I see and feel from all of my clients.
And that is there's only one thing holding them back from being who they want to be and living the life they feel they deserve.
And you know what it is?
It's very obvious.
It's themselves.
And I know this to be true because I continue to do the work on myself to keep my undercurrent crystal clear so that I am not holding myself back any longer.
Well,
I know I've heard that I should be and be careful not to share too much.
Don't share too much.
Because you might scare or offend somebody else.
Which is true,
Yet not really because I'm not in charge of your feelings.
And as you're not in charge of mine,
Right?
Because I'm only in charge of my own feelings.
So that's hard when I'm in a coaching session.
And somebody is afraid to make a shift.
And typically,
Though,
When they they're terrified and terrified and terrified to make the shift because of somebody else how somebody else is going to feel.
It's going to make someone else uncomfortable.
And you know what that is on someone else.
No one is in charge of your feelings but you and that is a really hard hard lesson to just grasp on to let alone make the shift towards so we have some techniques and things that we work on together for that.
Well,
When it does come to coaching or mentoring,
My purpose is to help you bring focus with the simple shifts that allow you to live with more tenacity,
More joy and more clarity,
Because you start to uncover and gain the confidence to live unapologetically authentic.
And you right you want to live your best life.
And only you can do that.
Well the sessions I'm going to tell you a little bit about the sessions the sessions I conduct with my clients are tailored for them.
So I can't say you have to come so many times.
And then you're going to be okay.
Now everything is tailored per person because every per every person is different,
Right?
So I can't do the same exact thing with everyone because it's not going to work that way.
But I can guarantee that you won't just sit with me and listen to me talk.
No that's why I have this podcast.
This is my chance to talk.
And I will not also tell you how to live your life better because I don't know it's your life only you know how to live it better.
Yet it is a time during our sessions,
It is time for you to remember how amazing you are.
And for you to realize that only you can make you happy.
So I help my clients recognize what is getting in their way for them to shine.
We all should have time to shine,
But we are putting the should shields up we're putting the roadblocks in place that doesn't allow that to happen.
I also help my clients acknowledge their hiccups by sharing their truth.
And we do exercises on how to forgive ourselves and others,
Because that needs to happen.
If you can't tackle that you it's very difficult to move forward.
I also help my clients learn how to shift their thoughts,
Their behaviors and their reactions.
Along with helping them define their direction like what path do they want to take?
What do they want?
You know,
And a lot of times people have a hard time defining what that is.
I also teach my clients how to manifest positivity and more abundant outcomes.
Now abundance doesn't necessarily mean you're going to get more money,
You're going to get a better car,
A better house.
Abundance is more of an intention.
What are you going to receive?
Do you want to receive more positivity,
More joy?
Those things will lead to more material things.
But if you are not happy and content where you are,
Nothing around you is going to continue to grow.
I also help my clients strengthen and retrain their mind to realize their potential.
That's definitely one of the top things we do to help you raise your vibration.
I also help my clients embody clear habits to accept the fullest versions of themselves,
Which is it's not easy.
You know,
None of this is easy.
However,
The more we dive in and pay attention,
The easier it does get.
It's pretty cool.
So there was a time I can tell you where I hid behind a smile and I hid behind drinking too much by running away from relationships,
By trying to live up to the many should shields and putting some up myself.
You know,
We all do it.
You can say you don't,
But I know you do well.
But then I realized it's more work to live in the muddy undercurrent and hiding is way more work than being open.
And for me,
It's always been the idea of shame or hurting someone else's feelings or else,
You know,
They won't like or accept me basically living in fear,
Right?
I think you can relate to that.
Well,
No more.
No more.
Because I realized how powerful I am.
And I was giving too much of my power to the unknown,
Which is a lot of fear and anxiety to the should shields to the negative energy.
And then I woke up and made a shift.
And you know what life is unknown.
Everything in life is unknown.
We don't know what's going to happen tomorrow.
Life is unknown.
And when I gave up my energy to the goodness and to the light,
It continues to shine upon me brighter than I could ever imagine.
Life has become so much more clear.
My creativity is abundant.
My communication,
My confidence to say I'm sorry,
Is so much bigger.
I don't just walk away.
I don't run away.
There's so many things in life that has shifted and it's really become more beautiful.
Those challenging moments aren't as challenging as they used to be.
So just for today,
Why don't you take a moment to discover what is in your undercurrent?
What is below the surface?
What are you hiding behind?
Are you allowing the should shields to rule your opinions and your feelings and are you hiding behind a smile?
What does that smile really mean?
Well,
Remember you are magnificent and it takes more energy to be afraid than to be positive.
Way more energy to be afraid.
Positive energy is already surrounding you and you might be closing the door to that.
So let's get that door propped open,
Even if you just prop it open and then you can open it fully.
