Vocal Toning Body Scan
by Alison David
Use your voice to give yourself sound healing and an internal massage, toning and focussing on the body are also useful tools to quieten the mind.

Your voice can heal you from the inside.
This meditation is going to be a body scan journey where we use the tone of our voice,
Toning,
To vibrate ourselves from the inside.
There's blood running through our bodies in liquid form and liquid responds very well to sound vibrations.
So we will go through the body scan,
Send a tone,
A vocal tone into the various parts of your body.
My preferred tone is just an ah.
Ah.
So you can find a tone that works well for you.
For me,
The lower the sound,
The more I can feel its vibration.
Different tones resonate with different parts of our body.
There is actually a tone that resonates with each organ in our body.
I'm imagining that every single part of us has a frequency and each frequency resonates with a certain tone.
And you can experiment with this as long as you want to,
In as many ways as you want to.
Other tones that are nice are ah,
The tone sounding of a sigh.
Ah.
The cathartic sounds are also very,
Very good.
There's also the comfort sound,
Ah.
So you choose your sound.
If it feels right,
Then change it as you go through your body,
Finding whatever sound works for you.
Sometimes you can get completely lost in the sound.
So we're using our minds to direct the sound to different parts of our bodies.
I'll start from the head.
So put your concentration and send your tone to the top of your head.
The top of your head is where you're sending your tone right now.
Ah.
That sound is at the top of my head,
But I'm not gonna make any more sounds.
It's for you to do.
So when you feel your skull,
Feel all your hair pores,
All the pores from where your hair comes,
Send the sound all across the skin at the top of your head.
Now send the sound into your brain.
Into your brain.
Create resonance in your brain.
Journey down your head through your nose.
Send the sound through your nose.
All the tracks of your breathing.
Your cheeks into your cheeks.
Send the sound to your ears.
The skin on your face.
Your chin.
Send the sound to your neck.
Send the sound to your throat,
The back of your neck.
Send the sound to your left shoulder.
Your upper arm,
Your upper left arm.
Your upper left arm.
Your upper left arm.
Send the sound to your upper left arm.
And when you already move the sound to your left elbow.
Now send the sound to your lower arm.
Feel the sound coursing through your bones.
Send the sound to the muscles and the skin.
Now take it to your wrist.
Send your sound into your wrist.
Now into your hands.
The palm of your hand.
The back of your hand.
Your thumb.
Your finger.
Your finger.
Your middle finger.
Your ring finger.
Your little finger.
Feel the sound vibrate in the whole of your hand.
Now I'm gonna take it to your right shoulder.
Send the sound into your right shoulder.
Send it into your collarbone,
To your shoulder blade.
The skin on your shoulder.
Send the sound into your upper arm.
And from your upper arm,
Move the sound to your elbow.
Move the sound to your elbow.
Sometimes it's nice to move your body at the same time.
You could be moving your elbow while sending sound into it.
Now you can send the sound into your lower arm.
Feel it in the bones.
Feel it in the skin.
Feel it in the muscles and the tendons.
And take that sound to your wrist.
Vibrate your wrist from the inside,
Using the tone of your voice.
Now your hand,
Your right hand.
You take the sound into your right hand.
Feel it vibrating in the bones of your right hand.
Your palm of your hand.
The back of your hand.
Your right thumb.
Your right index finger.
Your right middle finger.
Your right ring finger.
Your little finger.
Feel the sound vibrate the whole of your hand.
Wiggle your hand.
Okay,
Now we're gonna take you into your torso.
Feel your lungs,
Nice and wide,
Deep breath,
And let out a sigh of relief.
Send the tone into the whole of your lungs.
See if you can feel your bones of your lungs with your tone of your voice.
Send the sound into your heart.
The sound in your heart can be heard.
It can be heard.
It can be heard.
The sound in your heart can spend as long as you want.
You could do this whole meditation just into your heart.
Wake up your heart with your tone.
Observe your tone.
How does it sound?
When you send the sound into tense parts,
The sound is different to when you send the sound into the relaxed parts of your body.
Down your spine,
From the top of your spine to the bottom of your spine,
Send the sound along your spine.
Send the sound to your kidneys,
Your liver,
Your gallbladder.
Send the sound to your sacrum,
Your hips,
Your reproductive organs.
Send the sound to your buttocks.
Send the sound to your pubic bone.
Send the sound to your thighs,
Into your thighs.
Feel the muscles,
Feel the bones,
Feel the skin and send the sound there.
OK,
We'll do one leg at a time.
We'll start with the left leg.
Send the sound into your thigh.
Take it to your knee,
Your left knee.
Vibrate your left knee with your voice.
Now your left calf.
Vibrate your left calf with your voice.
Now your left ankle.
Take it to your foot.
Send the sound to the bones inside your foot.
The sole of your feet.
Send the sound to your toes,
Your toes.
Each one,
One by one,
Starting with the big toe,
Working your way to the little toe.
Send the sound to your toes.
You can wriggle your toes.
Now we're going to go to the right thigh.
Send the sound into your right thigh.
Now into your knee,
Your right knee.
Send the sound into your right knee.
Then into your right calf.
Feel your calf muscles vibrating with the sound of your voice.
Feel the bones vibrating.
Feel your skin vibrating.
Now send the sound to your ankle.
Feel your ankle bones.
Feel your heel.
Sole of your feet.
Sole of your right foot.
The top of your right foot.
All the bones inside your foot.
Send the sound to your big toe.
All the way to your little toe.
Back again.
Wiggle your toes.
Send the sound while you're wiggling.
Now try to feel your body as a whole.
Breathe out the sound.
Now back to your heart.
Send the sound to your heart.
Thank yourself.
One big sigh of relief.
You can do this meditation anywhere.
You can do it in the car.
You can do it in your bed.
Just wherever you feel safe to make sound.
You don't need to have a guide.
You can do it anywhere.
If there's a part of you that feels tension,
Send the sound into there.
Practice making sounds and sending them into the parts of your body where you feel tension.
Thank you very much for listening.
Thank yourself very much for taking this journey.

I have a slight buzzing all through my body now and I feel like the more I do this the more connection with my body I will create. I'm learning to sing and I'm sure this practise is going to shift a lot of things. Thank you so much for sharing!

That was great!! I've used sound in the past to ease pain and discomfort (esp. with migraine) but it hadn't occurred to me to use it like this. I loved this experience.

That was interesting - different from my normal meditation style. I have found in the past that humming a high pitched sound relieves my migraine pain. With this meditation I tried lots of different pitches - sometimes sweeping swooping from high to low or low to high to find the right pitch, and I stopped when I found a pitch that seemed to reach each body part, and held that pitch.

pretty interesting exercise! i'm new to this app so don't have much to compare it to but i like the idea of adding vocal toning to the exercise of focusing on different parts of your body. the 7 mins passed quickly and like some said, might move too fast. however, if you listen until the end, now that you know how to do it, you can do it unguided at your own pace.

I like how she allows you to make your own sounds, and simply guides you through your body.
