Hi everyone,
My name is Adriana DeFazio and this is a 10 minute guided buddha nature meditation.
Buddha nature refers to the buddhist teaching that we are inherently awake,
Whole and complete,
That we already have the seed of enlightenment,
Of awakening and liberation inherent in us.
And meditation serves as one aspect of the buddhist path that allows us to realize and see this inherent nature.
So start off by taking a comfortable seat.
Whether you're seated on a cushion or in a chair,
I invite you to find a posture that's uplifted,
Upright and dignified.
Your hands maybe palms down,
Tops of your thighs.
Your chest open,
Shoulders broad,
Chin tucked slightly in to make sure the back of your neck is long and aligned with the rest of your spine.
Softening your nose,
Cheeks and ears.
And then choosing to either gently close your eyes or to rest your gaze about three to five feet in front of you.
Softening your eyebrows and forehead.
Take a deep inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth.
Sometimes the easiest way to remember our buddha nature is to simply reflect on the goodness within us.
So recalling maybe a recent event or time,
Or an event that happened in the past,
Or an event where you feel like you behaved or acted or moved through the world from your inherent wakefulness,
From a clarity of mind,
From a source of compassion.
It may not necessarily be a very big or monumental moment or act.
You can simply choose an experience in which it's easy to connect to.
You can recall this moment in your mind visualizing what happened.
And then allow yourself to feel into that goodness.
This goodness that came spontaneously through you.
And then gently letting go of this visualization.
And then beginning to settle with the natural ebb and flow of your body breathing.
Breathing into this felt sense of goodness of your buddha nature.
And allowing yourself to settle further and further into your body.
The inherent wisdom and ease of your physical form.
And allowing your posture to serve as an extension,
An embodiment of this awakened nature.
The clarity and luminosity of your mind.
And the expansiveness of your heart.
Breathing into your wholeness.
Breathing into your worthiness.
Breathing into your wakefulness.
And each repetition of breath,
Each moment of remembering to come back to your body and heart.
Also being a means and opportunity to remember your buddha nature.
You already have everything you need to wake up,
To let go,
To let go of everything.
To live from this fundamental truth.
We simply need to give ourselves an opportunity to familiarize ourselves with this inherent nature.
To remember.
In your own time,
You can begin to let go of your mindfulness of breath.
Simply rest your mind in spacious awareness.
And then when you're ready,
You can begin to either open your eyes or raise your gaze.
Taking in your environment around you slowly.
And then bring movement back into your body.
Whatever stretches that feel supportive to you.
Thank you so much for your practice.
And I hope to sit with you soon.
