In this short audio, you'll be guided through simple somatic grounding, inviting you to step away from screens, and curiously connect with the tangible world around you. You can pause the audio at any time to extend this grounding exercise, or keep the brief structure if you need a quick moment to "simply be" in the midst of a busy day. You are welcome to utilize the free feature of adding ambient sounds to this audio by clicking the music note symbol to the left of the play button after you start this audio. There are several free options here you can choose from if you'd like an ambient soundscape behind my voice. Please note that this track, nor any other by this author, is intended to be a substitute for professional mental health services.

In these few minutes,

We're going to do a simple reset from screen time,

And I offer this as someone who can find myself scrolling and on my phone even when I don't want to be,

Even when I've set up all these measures to be off of my phone,

Knowing that the struggle is very,

Very real,

Especially when we need our devices to function in life in so many ways.

So it's really not possible or feasible to completely cut ourselves off,

But what we can do for five minutes here is slow down,

Anchor in our bodies,

Exhale a little bit,

And see what shifts we might be able to create internally.

So I invite you to take some gentle inhales and exhales,

Starting to feel some textures around you,

Just noticing where your fingers and toes might want to lead you.

This might be the fabric of clothing,

A blanket,

A rug,

Furniture,

The floor.

If you're outside,

Maybe the grass or a tree.

Maybe you want to pause this audio and get outside.

Wherever you are,

Let your fingers and toes curiously connect with tangible things in front of you,

Inviting the whole of your embodied being to be anchored and present where you are,

Not with a screen,

But with real,

Three-dimensional things that you can touch,

Hold,

Press into.

You can pause the audio here if you would like to spend more time curiously exploring different textures,

Different objects.

Whenever you're ready,

I invite you to choose one thing.

This might be a pillow,

A book,

A pen,

A sock,

A leaf,

A flower.

It can be anything.

I invite you to hold this in your hands,

Noticing how this feels against your skin,

Bringing your face closer to be present with this thing,

Even if it feels random or silly.

Just being right here with this one thing,

Being curious to see if there's anything you notice in this moment that you've not noticed before about this object or something like this object.

What are the little details or nuances that you can see with your eyes or feel with your touch?

Maybe you let yourself also smell what's in front of you.

Maybe you move the object and notice any sound,

Maybe brushing your skin against the object produces a sound.

And before we end our time,

Spending just a few more moments,

Taking a couple gentle breaths,

Not doing anything,

Not even trying to notice anything or not even trying to be curious,

But simply being present right where you are,

Right with this one thing.

Exhaling any of the rush or the reactions,

The numbness or the hurrying that can come about with screens and devices and our go-go-go pace.

Savoring these moments where nothing is needed of you and you get to simply be.

You can pause this audio and stay here as long as you would like.

Whenever you're ready,

I invite you to place this object down in front of you,

Honoring the time that you have spent with it,

Even if it feels very silly,

Even ridiculous,

Depending on if it was something like a sock or a pen,

But honoring the way that you were able to simply be,

Even if it felt difficult or messy,

That you chose to be present in whatever way was accessible to you right now.

So I invite you to do that,

Placing a hand over your heart,

Inhaling,

Exhaling,

And transitioning into the rest of your day.
