"I can give up but what was never real." This lesson teaches that we can only give up what was never real to begin with, meaning we can release illusions but not true reality. It emphasizes that illusions, such as fear and guilt, are mere dreams that conceal our true nature as God's Child. By letting go of these illusions, we discover the gifts they tried to hide, such as peace, love, and our incorruptible innocence. A Course in Miracles Lesson 322 I can give up what was never real.

I sacrifice illusions,

Nothing more.

As illusions are let go,

I find the gifts that illusions tried to hide,

The gifts that are awaiting me in shining welcome,

The gifts that are awaiting me in readiness to give God's ancient messages to me.

God's memory abides in every gift that I receive from him.

Every dream serves only to conceal my higher self,

Which is God's child,

The likeness of himself,

The Holy One,

My higher self,

Who still abides in God forever,

As God still abides in me.

Father,

To you,

All sacrifice remains forever inconceivable,

So I cannot sacrifice except in dreams.

Father,

As you created me,

I can give up nothing that you gave me.

Father,

What you did not give has no reality.

What loss can I anticipate except the loss of fear?

What gain can I anticipate except the return of love into my mind?

I sacrifice illusions,

Nothing more.

As illusions are let go,

I find the gifts that illusions tried to hide,

The gifts that are awaiting me in shining welcome,

The gifts that are awaiting me in readiness to give God's ancient messages to me.

God's memory abides in every gift that I receive from him.

I can give up nothing that you gave me.

What you did not give has no reality.

What loss can I anticipate except the loss of fear?

What gain can I anticipate except the return of love into my mind?

I can give up what was never real.

Nothing real can be threatened.

Nothing unreal exists.

Herein lies the peace of God.
