Maintaining energy in mindfulness meditation can sometimes be challenging,
Especially when the mind is feeling dull or listless.
At these times paying attention can be felt as a restrictive action in a closed,
Dim space and can intensify a sense of torpor.
Mindfulness is used to be aware of the state of mind and to choose to take action by bringing in mental energy.
There are several ways to do this.
One of them is to bring the mind into specific focus,
Such as closely watching one of the senses,
Or actively practicing a different form of meditation for a while,
Such as loving kindness,
Or perhaps a short walking meditation.
Another technique is to watch our breath.
We use the long out breath to relax,
So by making sure the out breath is shorter than the in breath will also help to maintain energy and keep us aware.
Opening the eyes for a while helps to keep us awake too.
My choice however is to stimulate the mind by mentally,
Curiously asking a question of myself,
Simply saying,
What's happening?
This self addressing repeated question of what's happening will stimulate the mental process and help to maintain the energy needed to continue practicing your mindfulness meditation.
So let's sit for a while,
Be comfortable and settle our attention,
Our awareness on the breath.
Grass rootshal waiting.
