Many of us can get stuck in the go-go-go of life and forget to check in with how we are doing at the moment. When we build the habit of checking in with ourselves and noticing how we are doing we can be more equipped to meet our needs. Knowing how you are doing can help with improved communication, setting boundaries, and a better relationship with yourself. This is a short practice to check in with your body and mind/quality of your thoughts. Thank you for practicing with me.

Hey everybody.

I'm going to dive right into a practice today on checking in with yourself.

I find that a lot of us get really stuck in the habit of go go go go go and we never learned how to really pause and see how we're doing and ask ourselves what we need and then meet what we need and so it always just starts with the ability to pause and say like how am I doing right now?

And that's it.

And then from there if you get some information and you have the time you can do something to support yourself and to meet your needs.

So there's many different ways to check in.

You can check in with your body,

How your body's doing.

You can check in with your breath.

How you're breathing right now might give you information about how you're doing.

You can check in with your thoughts.

You know see are your thoughts really stuck in the future and planning?

Are your thoughts stuck in the past and ruminating or longing for the past?

Are your thoughts bringing you pleasure or do they feel unpleasant?

And then you can also really just check in with you know the space that you're in because the space that you're in can also impact how you're doing.

So for today we'll just do a really quick check-in on just how our body is doing and what's happening with our thoughts.

Okay so again you can sit up tall and you can close your eyes or you can look down and just take a moment and notice how your body feels right now.

Does your body feel tense?

Does your body feel relaxed?

Can you notice parts of your body that feel cooler or warmer?

Are there parts of your body that are talking to you more?

Maybe you have a little bit of pain or discomfort?

Or are there parts of your body you don't even really notice right now?

And just see if you can feel the clothing you're wearing.

Can you feel the parts where you feel your clothing touch your skin?

And can you feel the parts of where your skin touches the air around you?

And just check in with your body again.

Notice how your body feels right now.

If there's anything your body needs and then bring your attention to your mind.

Do you notice many thoughts or no thoughts?

Sometimes when we bring our attention to our mind all of a sudden it's blank.

When you notice thoughts,

What are the quality of your thoughts?

Are they pleasant?

Are they unpleasant?

Do your thoughts go more towards the future and planning or worrying?

Do your thoughts stay more in the past?

Are your thoughts in the present moment right now in this experience?

Just notice how you feel right now.

How your body feels.

How your mind feels.

And if you feel calm or relaxed or energized or focused,

Just think about during your day when you could practice doing a check-in.

You could only do one,

Your body or your mind.

And if you haven't done so already,

You can open your eyes and let me know how this practice went for you.

Thanks so much.
