Welcome to this guided meditation.
This is Megan,
And this meditation is designed to provide you with a tool that may be helpful when you're feeling really wrapped up in your thoughts.
This is meant to create some space between you and your thoughts,
Between you and your mind.
We can get so wrapped up in our thoughts that we're not present.
So I invite you to find a comfortable seat.
You can also be laying down,
But if you are feeling like you're gonna fall asleep,
I suggest sitting up.
Your back can be supported,
If that's better for you,
And start to allow the body to soften while maintaining a long,
Strong spine,
So energy can flow freely.
Relax the face,
Soften the forehead,
Jaw,
Allow the shoulders to drop down and back,
And start to invite deep breaths into your body.
Inhaling through the nose,
Exhaling through the mouth.
Inhaling through the nose,
Exhaling through the mouth.
Soften the gaze or close the eyes completely.
And so now,
Let's use this beautiful tool of our imagination that we have to create a scene in our head.
So you are sitting next to a river,
And in this river,
There are some leaves that are floating downstream.
You decide how fast the river is flowing,
Fill the scene with color,
Textures,
Whatever you want it to be.
And you're just watching the leaves float downstream.
And as we sit here,
It's very natural for thoughts to arise,
Thoughts that are not part of this very present moment.
And when those thoughts arise,
Imagine that thought being one of the leaves.
You can see it,
Accept it,
And just watch it float by.
And maybe another thought arises.
Let's turn that thought into a leaf,
And it's just floating down the river.
We're not annoyed by it.
We just see it,
We accept it,
And we let it float down the river.
And then we come back to sitting next to the river in our body.
Maybe lots of thoughts come in,
But there are plenty of leaves.
Accept them,
Let them go.
And now we'll take a few moments without my voice to practice this technique.
Start to take some deep breaths,
And gently let this image dissolve.
You can start to move the body a little bit.
Gently open the eyes.
And the hardest part in all of this sometimes is not judging.
You know,
Not thinking,
I have so many leaves,
I couldn't even see the water.
Let it be.
You know,
We're here to practice.
And I promise you that in time and with consistent practice,
There will start to be more space between you and your thoughts,
And there will start to be less immediate emotional reactions to thoughts and to events in life,
Because you can create space,
You can create a pause between them.
Thank you for practicing today.
