Into The Cave Of Emotion - Transformational Breathwork
by Jo Riley
A sacred descent into the hidden chambers of your heart. Step into the cave where ancient emotions lie hidden beneath layers of time. This journey invites you into a space that is both still and roaring, dark and radiant, empty and overflowing with truth. It is a sanctuary that comforts even as it challenges. You’ll feel safe yet exposed, fragile yet unbreakable, lost in shadow yet illuminated from within. The cave calls you to soften and stand strong, to release and to reclaim. What you fear in the depths may be what frees you. Not suitable for cardiovascular issues, high blood pressure, epilepsy, seizures, recent surgery and pregnancy.

Welcome beautiful souls,
And thank you for answering the call to return.
You are about to enter sacred space,
A place beneath the surface of the day,
Beneath thought,
Where emotion lives,
Untouched and ancient.
This breathwork journey is called Into the Caves of Emotion,
A deep dive into the hidden chambers of your heart and body,
Where feelings may have been buried,
Stored,
Forgotten,
Waiting.
We will be working with the breath as our sacred guide,
A rhythmic,
Euphoric,
Three part breath all in and out the mouth,
Two breaths in,
One breath out,
Into the belly,
Into the chest,
Release and let go.
No pauses,
No force,
Just a gentle,
Continuous flow.
The most important thing is to bring as much oxygen into the body as possible,
That is the medicine.
We will journey with three breath holds,
Each one a key to unlock emotion,
To allow what's been stored to finally be felt and freed.
The breath technique will sound like this.
Now let's do three rounds together.
Let's prepare to descend.
Find a quiet,
Safe place to lie down,
A place of stillness where you can fully let go,
Lie on your back,
Spine long,
Heart open.
Rest your arms easily by your side,
Palms facing up if that feels good for you.
Close your eyes and arrive.
Drop into your body,
Feel the earth holding you.
You are safe here.
You are supported here.
Let's take some grounding and reset breaths.
So inhale deeply into the belly through the nose and exhale through the mouth with a sigh.
Feel the tension melt away,
Let yourself soften and unwind.
Again,
Inhale deeply into the belly through the nose,
Exhale through the mouth with a sigh.
Allow everything else to drop away,
There's nothing to fix,
Nothing to force.
And one more time,
Take another big deep inhale into the belly through the nose and exhale through the mouth with a big sigh.
Before we begin,
Take a moment to connect deeply with yourself.
This is your invitation to step gently into the sacred caves within,
The hidden spaces where your emotions live,
Where unspoken feelings rest,
Where healing is ready to unfold.
My intention for this journey is that your breath becomes a loving guide,
Helping you to meet whatever rises with courage,
Compassion and acceptance.
Now take a deep breath into your belly and as you exhale,
Softly set your own intention.
What do you wish to discover?
What are you ready to feel and to free?
Allow your heart to speak and let that intention guide your breath.
Take a few more slow deep breaths in through the nose,
Feel your belly rise and a slow exhale,
Enjoying these last few moments of stillness.
Enjoy the journey because we're going on a ride.
I will see you on the other side.
Okay,
Let's begin with the act of breathing.
So on my count,
Three,
Two,
One.
Open your mouth nice and wide.
Two inhales,
One exhale.
Into the belly,
Into the chest,
Exhale and let go.
No pause,
No force,
Just breathe.
Feel your diaphragm expand with every breath at the front,
At the back,
At the sides.
Let the rhythm take over.
Let it be the rope that lowers you down into the cave.
Every breath deeper and fuller than the one before.
Into your body,
Into sensations,
Into truth.
Into the belly,
Into the chest,
Relax and let go.
There is emotion here.
Maybe sadness,
Grief,
Anger,
Longing,
Confusion.
There may be tears,
There may be silence.
Whatever arises is welcome.
This cave holds no judgment.
Keep taking those nice,
Deep,
Beautiful breaths.
In through the mouth and out through the mouth.
Two breaths in,
One breath out.
Feel the presence of your dragon beside you.
Not to fix you,
But to witness you.
Its breath merges with yours.
Cool,
Calm and ancient.
You are not alone.
Let the breath carry you.
Into the belly,
Into the chest,
Exhale and let go.
You may feel warmth building.
You may feel nothing at all.
Stay with it.
Stay with you.
Keep taking those nice,
Deep breaths.
Feel the full expansion.
You are entering the vaults of your being.
This is sacred work.
You don't have to hold it together here.
As you begin,
Feel into any resistance.
Meet it with softness.
Every emotion that arises is an invitation.
This is not about control.
This is about allowing.
Letting yourself feel what hasn't been felt.
Letting the body take the lead now.
Your breath is guiding you inward.
Deeper than the mind can go.
Let it show you what's ready to be released.
Trust your body.
Trust your breath.
Maybe it's grief.
Maybe it's numbness.
Maybe it's old frustration.
Whatever it is,
It's okay.
It's part of your aliveness.
So keep breathing.
Keep doing the work.
Lean into it.
Two breaths in,
One breath out.
We're about to come up for our first breath hold.
On my count,
Three,
Two,
One.
Exhale fully.
Let it all go.
And now take an inhale deeply till you cannot take in any more oxygen.
And then hold.
Squeeze your core.
Stay still.
Feel.
Not think.
Feel deeply.
Let emotions rise.
Let tears come if they need to.
Let the aches speak.
Let the silence roar.
There is nothing here that can harm you.
You are safe.
Keep holding.
This is a cave of remembering.
You are touching a piece of yourself that has long been hidden.
Stay in the stillness.
Keep holding the dragon beside you.
You are not broken.
You are human and you are healing.
And now on my count,
Three,
Two,
One.
Exhale with a big sigh.
Come back to the breath.
Come back to the breath technique.
Two breaths in,
One breath out.
Into the belly,
Into the chest.
Exhale and release.
What did you feel during that breath hold?
Can you stay with it now as it moves?
Breathe with what came up.
Don't push it away.
Don't label it.
Just keep breathing and staying present.
Your body is intelligent.
It knows how to unravel.
You're not broken.
You're becoming.
Keep taking those nice,
Beautiful,
Deep breaths.
Bringing all that oxygen into every cell of the body.
Let the breath carry the emotion like a river.
A wave that swirls and crests and softens.
You don't need to fix anything.
Just witness.
You are the safe space now.
Let sound come if it wants to.
Let tears fall if they need to.
That's the medicine.
That's the healing.
That's you saying yes to a life again.
Let it move through you now.
Whatever needs to.
Don't hold back.
This is your temple.
Emotion is energy in motion.
Let it move.
This is not weakness.
This is medicine.
Keep breathing.
Let the dragon lead.
Let your body weep,
Tremble or rest.
All of it is sacred.
With every breath,
Make it a little deeper and a little fuller.
And if you want to,
You can go a little faster.
We're about to come up to our second breath hold.
So lean in fully.
Into the belly,
Into the chest.
Relax and let go.
On my count.
Three,
Two,
One.
Fully exhale.
Inhale deeply.
Taking as much oxygen in.
Breathe it in,
Breathe it in,
Breathe it in,
Breathe it in.
And when you get to the top,
Close your mouth and hold.
Squeeze gently.
Anchor in.
You are safe in the stillness.
Imagine a door within this cave.
A door you've walked past many times.
Today,
It opens and behind it is treasure,
Truth and peace.
Keep holding.
You don't need to force anything.
Just be here.
Let your presence do the work.
Stay here,
Stay still,
Stay sacred.
Feel it deeply,
Feel it fully.
And on my count.
Three,
Two,
One.
Exhale and release.
We're coming up to our final round of active breathing.
So come back to the breath,
Come back to the technique.
Two breaths in,
One breath out.
Into the belly,
Into the chest.
Exhale.
This is the final descent.
Breathe deeper.
Into the heart of the cave.
Into the oldest part of you.
The one who knows.
The one who knows how to feel.
You are safe to feel.
You are safe to let go.
Keep breathing.
Breathe deeper.
Breathe fuller.
You are not breathing to escape the emotion.
You are breathing to release it.
You don't need to carry it anymore.
Now breathe into the space you've just created.
The space where the old stories used to live.
What's emerging in this place?
What truth has been waiting underneath the wound?
Breathe into the possibility of freedom,
Of wholeness,
Of softness.
You are reclaiming the parts of yourself you had to leave behind to survive.
You are not surviving anymore.
You are returning.
Let yourself feel that.
Let it sink in.
Keep breathing.
We're coming up to the end of the act of breathing.
So really push these last few seconds.
Give it all you've got.
Breathe fuller,
Deeper.
Make it worth it.
And now on my count.
3,
2,
1.
Exhale fully.
Let it all go.
Inhale deeply.
And hold.
Squeeze your core.
This time,
Imagine yourself in a glowing underground chamber.
Walls made of crystal.
Pulsing with emotion and memory.
The dragon stands before you,
Bowing its head.
This is your moment.
Feel the release.
Feel what you are ready to let go of and let it melt into the air.
Hold,
Witness,
Honour.
And now exhale with a big sigh.
3,
2,
1.
We are done with the act of breathing.
Close your mouth and breathe softly in and out through the nose.
Feel your belly rise and fall.
Let everything settle.
Feel that quiet after the storm.
Let your breath rock you gently like water.
Allow your body to gather itself and integrate.
Place both hands on your heart.
And whisper to yourself.
I am safe to feel.
I am free to release.
I honour all that I am.
You've met yourself in the depths.
Now let that meeting transform you.
As you breathe gently,
Let yourself feel proud.
You've gone where many never dared to go.
Inside.
Outside.
This breath is now about integration.
Bringing safety into the body.
Letting peace settle.
Letting trust grow roots.
The parts of you that used to hide.
And learning that it's safe to be seen again.
Let your breath become slower and softer.
Let your body show you what it needs.
You are the healer.
You are the space holder.
You are the safe haven you've been searching for.
The dragon curls around you now.
Not as fire,
But as comfort.
Emotion has moved.
You are lighter now.
You are freer.
You are stronger.
You've done beautiful work.
Stay here as long as you need to.
And when you are ready,
Slowly begin to move your fingers and toes.
Your wrists and ankles.
Slowly move your neck side to side.
If you want,
You can bring your knees in to your chest and give yourself a beautiful squeeze.
Take a full body stretch.
And just come back to this moment.
Welcome back.
Well done,
Beautiful souls.
Thank you.
