Eating 2-3 hours before bed can disrupt sleep, raising insulin levels and confusing your body's natural sleep signals. This talk discusses why this can cause sleep disruption and other health issues. We also discuss how we can be flexible if we can not fit our lives into that three-hour schedule before bedtime. Photo by Marcus Aurelius

Hi friend.

You have probably heard before to stop eating three hours before you go to bed.

However,

Why does the timing of your last meal matter?

Have you wondered why it plays a role in your sleep?

When you have late meals or snacks,

Your insulin often spikes.

And this is normal,

But you don't have time to recover from these late meals.

It can take at least two hours to return to its regular glucose zone.

So if you are eating three hours before bedtime,

Your melatonin also increases,

Getting you ready for sleep.

This can confuse your body,

With both of these being present at the same time.

This makes it hard to sleep at night when both of these are working in your body at the same time.

Also for those trying to lose or maintain weight,

It often stores the insulin in the fat when it does not know where to put it.

When you are trying to lose weight,

This can make it more difficult.

It can lead to other health issues as well.

We are only human though,

And it's not always possible to stick to the schedule.

If you can,

Try to stop eating three hours before.

If you can't,

Try going for a short walk after.

Even a 15-minute walk after eating can help reduce the glucose faster,

And this makes your body happy.

I hope this helps,

But if you want a few other tips and tricks to improve your sleep,

I invite you to check out my course called Meditation Techniques for Sleep for a deeper night rest.

Take care,

My friend.
