Pranayama is an ancient yogic practice that uses breath control to regulate energy flow (prana) in the body, promoting balance and well-being. Techniques like alternate nostril breathing can cleanse energy channels, calm the mind, and enhance focus. This simple yet powerful practice helps harmonize the body and mind, making it an excellent tool for relaxation and mental clarity both before sleep and when starting your day. Hi friend!

My name is Samantha Linden,

The Blissful Soul.

Have you ever heard of pranayama?

Prana is like the fuel that keeps your body and mind running smoothly.

By practicing pranayama,

You can learn to control your breath,

And in turn,

Control your mind.

How much prana we have and how it flows through our body affects how we feel and think.

Our actions,

Thoughts,

And especially our breathing can influence the movement of prana.

When our prana levels are high and flowing smoothly,

Our minds are calm and positive.

But if we don't pay attention to our breath,

It can cause blockages in the nadis and chakras,

Leading to a choppy flow of prana.

This can make us feel worried,

Fearful,

And tense.

Alternate nostril breathing is common.

This is a great approach when feeling distracted and unfocused.

So let's give it a try.

Get settled in for a short session of alternate nostril breathing,

Which will take about three minutes.

When you are ready,

Sit up straight with your shoulders and spine straight.

And if you are comfortable,

Close your eyes.

Let's settle in by taking a few deep breaths at your own pace.

Now take one last deep breath in and exhale out all the old air.

Then raise your right hand,

Gently bring your index and middle fingers together,

And fold them towards your palm.

Keep your fingers facing the sky.

Once we get started,

You will be using your thumb to close your right nostril and your ring finger to close your left nostril.

If this is too difficult,

You can use your pinky instead of your ring finger.

Now let's begin.

Gently close your right nostril with your thumb.

Inhale deeply through your left nostril for a count of four,

One,

Two,

Three,

And four.

Close your left nostril with your ring finger and release your thumb from your right nostril.

Exhaling for a count of four,

One,

Two,

Three,

And four.

Inhale deeply from your right nostril,

One,

Two,

Three,

And four.

Again,

Gently close your right nostril with your thumb.

Exhaling through your left nostril for a count of four,

One,

Two,

Three,

And four.

Inhale deeply through your left nostril for a count of four,

One,

Two,

Three,

And four.

Close your left nostril with your ring finger and release your thumb from your right nostril.

Exhaling for a count of four,

One,

Two,

Three,

And four.

Keep this cycle of breathing going at your own pace,

Counting four breaths at a time before alternating the nostril and finger.

Focusing on your breath and the sensation of air moving through your nostrils,

I will let you know when our time is complete.

We just have a little longer to go.

You are doing great.

Now,

When you are ready,

Finish the current cycle you are in by releasing the air from your left nostril.

Slowly open your eyes when you are ready.

Thank you,

My friend,

For joining me today.

Please feel free to share your experience in the comments.
