Hello,
My name is Preeti from theunlovables.
Com and I'm so pleased to tell you about my spiritual journey with meditation and to offer you some guided meditations to practice.
Whether you're a seasoned practitioner or you're trying meditation for the first time,
I hope I'll be able to demystify the process for you and help you gain the confidence you need to access your own spiritual superpowers.
I developed my meditation practice through reading and listening to many,
Many teachers,
But especially to Pema Chodron,
Thich Nhat Hanh,
And Tara Brach.
Their writings and guided meditations have been a central part of my practice,
Which began over 20 years ago.
I have always been searching for a spiritual anchor,
And meditation was the first thing I did that made me feel connected to a power greater than myself.
God was a difficult concept for me,
But meditation made sense,
Brought immediate relief to my lifelong struggles with anxiety,
And made me feel less alone and more like I'm a part of something,
Something bigger than me.
I think we often have misperceptions of what the goal is when meditating.
First,
There's no such thing as being good or bad at meditating.
Meditation is not about clearing our minds and suppressing our thoughts.
Our brains weren't even designed to work like this.
Meditation is about becoming comfortable with our thoughts,
Acknowledging them as they will inevitably rise during our practice,
And learning to let them go when they come forward.
Second,
Meditation isn't about becoming a better person.
It's about befriending who we are in this very moment.
Meditation isn't about being better.
It's about befriending who we are in this very moment.
Not in the past,
Not in the future,
Not even one day at a time,
But who we are,
As Pema Chodron says,
In this precious moment of our practice.
Finally,
Meditation is about the breath,
The most basic and crucial part of our being.
And yes,
We can measure our breath.
We can take long or short breaths.
We can even hold our breath up to a point,
But we aren't in complete control of it.
We don't need to be.
Another one of my teachers,
Chris McDuffie,
Used to say,
Most of the time,
The breath breathes us.
This idea that I'm not in charge of my breath for most of the time I am breathing was critical in my return to a regular meditation practice back in December 2020.
And that's another thing.
There have been years where I have not meditated a single day,
But I always come back to this practice because what I find here,
I can't find anywhere else.
And that is connection and peace of mind that exists within me that is not external.
We practice mindful breathing during meditation because it anchors us.
While meditating,
When your mind runs away with a flurry of thoughts or disturbing thought comes up and you start to feel ungrounded,
You can gently bring your attention back to the breath,
Feel its natural rhythm and flow and let the breath breathe you.
This is our natural state of consciousness.
Everyone can do this.
This is where the magical superpower that is meditation is unleashed.
It is in the most basic human function of breathing.
So today I want you to say to yourself,
If I can breathe,
I can meditate and give yourself grace if you need to remind yourself that you don't have to be anyone or anything more than who you are in this very moment to be worthy of and to access your own spiritual superpowers.
