Hello and welcome.
My name is CG and today I will be discussing strategies and techniques for refocus when we lose focus in the workplace.
Losing focus in the workplace happens to everyone from time to time.
So it's important that we don't beat ourselves up about it but that we find and utilize techniques to help us regain focus so that we can get back on task.
So the first thing I would recommend and say is to acknowledge that you have lost focus and when you realize that you have lost focus take a break.
Step back,
Get up,
Maybe walk around,
Go get a sip of water,
Take a bathroom break.
If you're wanting to stay at your desk just sit back in your chair,
Close your eyes for 30 seconds and just give yourself time to think about what it is you need to be working on at that time.
The next thing I would recommend is observing your space,
Your workspace.
So I work from home and before I was working in our bedroom,
My husband and I,
And I have a shed,
It's a customized shed in the backyard of my house and I decided to clean it out and make it my office space because I found when I was working in the house,
In the bedroom,
I was distracted by everything and everyone and often time my focus was pulled.
So I came in the back here and decided I would clean this place out and I have made it into a work office for myself and it really works for me because it's cleaner than my house is.
I know that sounds horrible but it's the truth and it has all the things that I like in it that create a peaceful environment for me.
Like I like plants,
I like candles and incense and I'm able to have all those things here without them being touched or moved.
You know typically in the house someone moves things and then you can't find it but back here I can find everything that I want to have you know because it's just me here.
So I would say observe your space and if you're not working from home and you're working in an office,
Observe your desk or your office area or if you're working in a cubicle,
Look at it,
Observe it.
If there are things that are causing you distraction like things you need to declutter,
Too much paperwork,
Too many things on your desk,
You know consider cleaning all off those things that are disrupting you because the goal is to remove distraction,
Right?
We want to have better focus so just like we do our full moon releases to let go of things and people that no longer suit us in our lives,
Think about doing that for your workspace,
Right?
Decluttering,
Removing what no longer suits you from your work environment and I would go as far as to say to create an energy in your space,
In your workspace.
So here when I work back here in my little sheet-in,
I like to burn candles or incense.
Sometime I'll let a window up to let the fresh air in but I like to create this vibe,
This comfortable cocoon energy and I feel so comfortable working in here.
You know I can focus,
You know,
Because the space,
The energy is just nice.
So again if you're in an office space or an office building and you may not be able to light candles and incense,
You know,
Inside of an office building but maybe consider putting some items there,
Crystals,
You know,
Things that can encourage a nice energy and working environment for yourself so that you can better focus.
And then try to stay organized.
I know that's easier said than done sometimes because all of us have different careers and things that we're doing,
Multitasking and juggling this and juggling that.
But if possible,
Try to stay organized.
Maybe consider using some to-do list.
One thing I've been exploring that the Insight Timer app has is a timer.
So I lose focus often and because of that,
I have to make a list,
Right?
And sometimes I can eyeball a task and think about how long it may take me to complete it.
So then I may use the Insight Timer and use the timer inside the app to set a time.
Or if you don't want to use the Insight Timer,
You can maybe use Kitchen Timer or your phone has a timer,
You can use it.
But anyway,
I just set a time in the timer to complete that task.
And then I create like this mind game for myself,
Right?
I'm trying to beat the timer from going off by completing this task that I have for myself,
You know,
Within a certain time frame.
So if you're in a work building and you want to use the timer technique,
Be sure it's not too loud because we don't want to disrupt others and create loss of focus for others around us.
You know,
But you know,
If you are going to use it,
Maybe put it low but close enough to you where you can hear it.
But that's a great way to stay on task and stay focused on the task that you're working on.
And then practice mindfulness.
Give yourself grace and be patient with yourself.
Because again,
Losing focus happens to most if not all of us.
So observe your thoughts,
And then bring your attention back to what you're supposed to be working on.
Take some time to do breath work.
You know,
Like I said before,
If you want to take 30 seconds to close your eyes,
Or 30 seconds to do some breath work breathing in and then out.
Releasing all the negative energies that may be causing you to become unfocused.
So those are just a few techniques.
Really explore the ones that you think may work best for you or come up with your own.
But just try your best to regain the focus,
Because we're working for our well being.
And we're grateful to have the work that we have.
So we want to make sure that we are doing our tasks and doing them to the best of our ability.
Thank you so much for listening.
May all have the opportunity to become whole again in the presence of the Most High.
