Hello everyone!
Today I want to share a story from one of my clinical nutrition internships.
A simple experience that carries a powerful lesson about our hidden eating habits and self-compassion.
During one of my clinical rotations,
A young woman in her 20s came to my office for a nutrition consultation.
At first glance,
She looked healthy and wasn't in the obese category at all.
But she wanted to lose some weight,
Hoping to feel better in her body and take care of her health.
As part of the consultation,
We went through her eating habits together.
We talked about her daily meals,
Snacks and routines.
I also reviewed her blood test results,
Something we always do to understand the full picture.
That is when I noticed that her hemoglobin A1c level was higher than normal.
It wasn't alarming yet,
But it was a signal,
A sign that she might be at risk of diabetes.
She already knew about it from a recent doctor visit and came to me ready to make changes.
Together,
We started planning her meals carefully,
Focusing on balanced nutrition to stabilize her blood sugar and energy levels.
She fully committed to the plan and was eager to take control of her health.
At the end of the session,
I asked her a question I often include in my consultations.
If you had the power to change one thing about your eating habits,
What would it be?
It was the question.
She paused for a moment,
Then with a little smile,
She said softly,
I want to quit eating Haribos while watching television after dinner.
That surprised me,
Actually.
This wasn't in her food diary,
And she hadn't mentioned it during our conversation.
Yet here it was,
A hidden habit she hadn't been fully aware of.
For 10 minutes,
We talked about it.
Why she reached for them,
When the craving came,
How it became part of her nightly ritual without her even noticing.
That single moment,
Her honest answer changed everything in how we approached her nutrition plan.
It reminded me that our deepest habits aren't always the ones we write down.
They are the ones we forgot to mention.
So today,
I want to ask you the same question.
If you had the power to change just one eating habit,
What would it be?
You don't need to act on it right now.
You don't need a perfect plan.
Simply pause,
Reflect and be honest with yourself.
Sometimes,
Awareness itself is the first and most powerful step.
When we understand our habits,
Even the small hidden ones,
We start creating space for change,
Naturally and gently.
So remember,
Changing your nutrition doesn't happen overnight.
It begins with awareness,
One habit,
One choice,
One mindful step at a time.
Thank you for sharing this moment with me.
I look forward to walking this journey of mindful nutrition together.
