A deeply calming guided death meditation led by Nitya Gopal Das that begins with full-body relaxation in Shavasana and breath awareness, then gently guides you to visualize your own funeral as an observer—the soul beyond the body. Through reflective questions, you explore gratitude, regrets, unfinished intentions, and what truly matters at the scale of eternity, returning with clarity about your values, devotion, and purpose in service to Srila Prabhupada and Nama Prabhu. The practice ends with emotional release through breath, a grounded return to the present, and an invitation to journal insights while they are fresh. Image credit: Pexels

Welcome to this guided death meditation with me Nitya Gopal Das.

There are many gifts you will receive as you go through this guided meditation and for you to be able to receive those gifts you need to be in a very relaxed state.

Preferably,

Lie down in shravasana,

The corpse pose.

Lie down on your back and spread your legs and your arms,

Completely relaxed in all muscular tensions in your arms and legs,

In your back and neck.

As you breathe deeply,

Experience a soothing wave of relaxation spreading from your fingers and toes up through your hands and arms up through your feet and legs.

Enjoy this feeling of relaxation in your limbs and follow it as this feeling of relaxation soothes your waist,

Your chest,

Your back,

Your neck and your toes.

Enjoy this movement and feel the pleasure of letting go and sink into a deeper state of complete relaxation.

Breathe deeply and notice the natural and spontaneous rhythms of your breath.

When you breathe in,

Let your stomach blow out and as you breathe out,

Let your stomach go in.

Relax your body and breathe just like a baby.

Dissolves all your cares and worries and thoughts into the breath.

Allow the breath to spontaneously flow in and out like the rolling waves of the sea.

Let the outgoing breath take along with it all your worries,

All your cares,

All your stress and the tension,

The anxiety and the fear that you're carrying in your body.

Continue breathing in deeply,

Breathing in and breathing out and with each breath out you are letting go.

With each incoming breath,

Allow yourself to go deeper and deeper into a state of relaxation,

Into a state of deep connection with your divine self.

And as you do that,

You gradually travel to a future event of your life with the vehicle of your mind and breath.

You're witnessing a future event,

Your own funeral.

Such is the impermanence of all matter as we all experience the death of our body while the soul continues its eternal journey.

You,

The soul,

Are watching the funeral of your own dead body and your whole identities in this life.

As you enter the same of your own funeral,

You're floating and witnessing the entire event of your funeral.

You're watching from above,

Floating in the air and you gradually entering the same and coming closer and closer to your own dead body.

Your family and friends are assembled around your body.

Notice who all are there for you.

Feel their presence.

Notice their emotions.

What do they feel now that you're gone?

What are they saying about you?

As you go closer,

You take a closer look at your own dead body,

Beautifully decorated and sanctified for the last rites with flowers around you and many people offering their words.

As you look at your body,

Notice the emotions and thoughts that arise in you.

What are the things you feel happy about?

Joy about?

What are the things from your life that you want to celebrate?

What are some of the regrets you feel as you see your life coming to an end?

What are the emotions you're feeling now?

Do you feel any pain,

Any sorrow,

Any guilt?

Did you love yourself enough?

Did you care for yourself?

Did you celebrate your own divine existence?

Did you do justice to yourself in your life?

Or did you leave any unfinished business with yourself?

Did you honor yourself properly as a divine part of the Supreme Lord?

Did you allow yourself to live your life in alignment with your dreams and aspirations of serving mission of Srila Prabhupada and Nama Prabhu?

Which of those are finished,

Which of those have been addressed and which of those have been ignored?

Did you live in alignment with your own values and needs?

Did you connect with your divine source in life and death?

Realizing how these current conflicts with people or pain of being misunderstood just doesn't matter.

Temporary emotional pain of not getting respect or any of your desirables just doesn't matter at the scale of eternity.

No position,

No power and any amount of money are coming along with me and at the scale of eternity they does not have any value.

Realizing these temporary discomfort of taking pain in serving Nama Prabhu is the only asset I am carrying with me.

My connection with my Guru Srila Prabhupada and Nama Prabhu are the only relationship which are the most important to me and I am still carrying them in my heart.

See yourself becoming fearless and free from all anxiety and insecurity with a dawning understanding of being always protected and maintained by the Lord as His divine and loving part and parcel.

Connect with your breath and continue breathing deeply meditating on these questions and realizing the importance of spiritual development as you see your own funeral.

Continue breathing deeply as you meditate on these questions.

Let the scene of your own funeral slowly fade away.

Come back to your present awareness and connect with yourself now.

Travel back from that scene with the vehicle of your own mind and breath.

Connect with the thoughts and emotions that you have experienced and keep breathing deeply.

Having seen your own death,

Your own funeral a lot of emotions and realizations would have come to surface for you.

Think that how can you treasure your life more than that as imminent.

What is of real importance for you?

What are the steps you can take now to live in alignment with your values and needs knowing the impermanence of your life?

What is the agreement you would like to make with yourself having gone through this death meditation?

Having understood,

It's okay to fail sometime.

It's okay to be imperfect.

It's okay to not gain people's attention and have people in agreement with me.

It's okay to not have certain things in my life as it doesn't matter at all.

Continue breathing deeply as you think about these questions.

As you breath,

Deeply release the emotions you would have felt and experienced in your body as you went through your own death meditation.

While you hold on to the intelligence that those emotions point out to.

You want to release yourself of the energy of those emotions from your body.

Through deep breathing,

Release any tensions and any emotions you are feeling in your body right now.

With every outgoing breath,

Let all the energy that is not needed,

That is harmful to you be released with every breath.

When you are ready,

You may open your eyes and come back to your surroundings.

Remain relaxed for the next hour or so and take your time to write your experiences down in the document.

Make sure you write them down with the next hour of completing this meditation.

Because your thoughts are still fresh,

The insights are still deep and the realizations are still strong.

Take time to note them down and answer these questions in the document so that you can come back to it anytime.

And you want to orient yourself to your true position,

Your fixed point in a spinning world.

Your realization from this meditation will help you work from your deeply held belief system and values and the principles.

These realizations will be your internal compass unique to you,

Representing who you are at the deepest level.

Thank you very much for the death meditation with me.

It is a very tough act to see your own death,

A very brave act indeed.

And it is even more difficult to connect with all these different emotions and writing them down for your own reference.

I wish you the very best in your life,

Full of happiness,

Enjoyment and purpose.

Thank you very much.

Hare Krishna
