Take a brief pause from being a support person to your loved one who miscarried, and acknowledge your own grief. This meditation blends elements of grief work and mindful self-compassion to bring words to the feelings you may be struggling with. In just 5 minutes, you are invited to breathe, sit with your emotions, and release the expectation of staying strong for others by witnessing your own pain. **Trigger Warning: This meditation contains sensitive content related to death and infertility. Assess your emotional readiness to engage with the words miscarriage, grief and loss before utilizing this meditation for support. Have a support person or care plan nearby in case intense emotions do arise. Music: Farewell by Garth Stevenson Image: StevenGT from Pexels

Hi there.

Please find comfort in whatever form you have arrived in.

Sitting,

Laying down,

Resting.

Take a moment to gently move your neck and shoulders.

Squeeze your toes.

Open and close your fists.

Notice your breath as it moves in and out of your lungs.

You may wish to focus on the breath and slow things down.

You may wish to focus elsewhere and just trust that your body will carry you through.

You'll know what's right for you.

If you have found this particular meditation,

It is likely you are holding a lot of pain right now.

Grief.

We are going to address this loss together and the disenfranchised grief you're holding.

Please offer yourself the patience and permission to safely feel what may come.

A pregnancy was lost.

Hope.

A dream of a new little person entering our world.

Maybe this was the first time you'd created life.

Maybe you've experienced the joy of parenting before.

There was a time of excitement,

Connection,

Joy,

And anticipation.

Maybe you told people.

Maybe you waited.

Take a deep breath here if it feels okay.

In through the nose and exhale through the open mouth.

I invite you to also place a palm over your abdomen or chest to connect with yourself here with some intention.

Our intention is to grieve.

You do not need to save anyone here in this moment.

You do not have to stay strong for others in this moment.

You can release the need to push it all down.

Your grief can take up space here.

You lost them too.

That was your heart that broke too.

Your family forever changed.

Take a moment here to give yourself whatever you may need.

A moment to cry.

A moment to breathe.

A moment to hurt.

Or maybe to love deeply.

Take your time my friend.

Now I'd like you to allow these next offerings to land with you.

Either say them back aloud or let them sink in silently.

If some of them don't fit for you,

That's okay.

Let them slide off your shoulders.

Now,

I did everything I could do.

There was nothing I could have done.

This pain is real.

This grief matters.

I am not alone in this.

People want to be there for me.

Anyone in my position would feel this way.

May I be patient with myself.

May I be kind to myself.

May I stay connected to myself.

Taking a final moment here to close with a deep breath.

Maybe a final pat or rub of your arm,

Shoulder,

Or abdomen to show your body that you will let it grieve.

You will honor the pregnancy that was lost by taking care of yourself now.

You will do so by visiting this space when you need a moment.
