The word feminism has become a buzz word in the mordern world. Equality of the sexes and debating this subject has caused an immense amount of emotion and argument. The type of feminism though that we see in the modern world is only one type and is similar that which was practised in the Viking age. There is though another type or style of feminism which was practised in the Indus Valley over 4000 years ago, symbolised in the Pashupati seal and was a very different type of feminism altogether.

The first civilization on earth was those people called the Sumerians who were found in Mesopotamia.

Who the Sumerians were is very unclear,

But we do know that their name represents the black-headed people.

There is some speculation at the moment that they may have actually been Dravidian,

Where other speculation has been that they may have been African.

The Sumerians held women in quite high regard,

And they had a high level within society.

It was only when the Arcadians came along who were a Semitic people,

Whereby women's place in society was dropped and downgraded.

It appears as though when a culture is based on war and violence,

That it is the patriarchal society which emerges.

War and violence always tends to emerge when the increase of population or when population density gets too high.

Therefore,

For the last 4,

000 years,

Or maybe even 5,

000 years,

We have been in a consistent situation where we are in a patriarchal society because we are constantly warring and fighting with each other.

It would be hard not to deny that the nature of a man is to fight.

This of course is more evident than ever if you just go down to the local pub on a Friday night.

Feminism has become a real buzzword in the modern world,

And the current feminism that we see today is somewhat based on the same feminism that was used during the Viking Age,

Where women wanted to be like men in every facet of life.

In the Viking Age,

The women wanted to go on the raiding parties and be a part of the shield war,

And be very high up in leadership positions as the men.

Nowadays,

We see a very similar situation where women want to have the same muscular and physical attributes as men.

We also see that it's very common that women want to have the high leadership positions.

We also see women tend to copy this aggressive attitude that many men in high positions portray and use.

I am not here saying whether that is incorrect or a correct method of getting equality,

But what I can tell you is that history has shown us that feminism,

Or the equality of the sexes,

Doesn't need to be in that way.

All the evidence currently suggests that the Indus Valley Civilization was actually a matriarchal society.

It is extremely interesting to note that this matriarchal society was the same society that created probably the greatest philosophy ever,

Which was the Samkhya philosophy,

And also developed yoga,

Which was the way to practice the Samkhya philosophy.

It was this culture and this type of matriarchal society that developed the world's most advanced spiritual practices,

Probably the world's most advanced psychological systems of well-being.

It was also this society and this culture that developed some of the most advanced medical systems ever to exist up until modern times,

Systems that ended up even having advanced surgeries such as cataract surgery.

This society was also based on one of the highest principles ever known to mankind.

This principle was mentioned in the Bhagavad Gita where they said that the highest dharma is the dharma of non-violence.

The society was a society that didn't need leaders,

But could actually still function with a large population that got along,

Developed amazing engineering feats,

And even though all these people were living side by side together with an excess population,

It was still a society that showed no violence whatsoever.

Here we can see that the divine feminine,

That the power of the divine feminine can actually change the very fabric of society and the very nature of the way that we as human beings live in the world.

The divine feminine or 'eternal feminine' is a very common concept in classical Russian literature as well! I only had exposure through that tradition, though. Thanks for expanding my boundaries!

Deep and profound thank you 🙏🏽 As a 48 year old woman, it is amazing for me to begin on this journey of discovering how patriarchy has affected me (physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually), my family, and my community. Namaste
