It is a common question that is sometimes asked to me is,
What do you think or how can I help my child to choose their career,
A career that will be suitable for them?
The answer I give is always threefold.
First is that the child needs to choose something they're good at.
Second,
They need to choose something that they are willing to wake up every single day and do for the rest of their life.
Not saying you can't change,
But if you don't have to change,
That's always a positive.
And number three,
Something that is financially viable.
The reason why I choose these three things is first of all,
If you choose something you're good at,
You're naturally going to be successful at it.
It's naturally going to give you confidence.
It's naturally going to benefit your life.
Certainly if you're very good at it,
It's something you'll enjoy doing because people respect you for it.
And also if you're good at it,
There's very likely that the financial rewards are going to be beneficial to you.
I do though have a caveat to this,
And that is that I think it is paramount for parents to observe their children at a young age and watch carefully at what they are naturally good at.
By observing this,
The parents can then develop that by which the talents of this child come forth.
For example,
If you notice that your child is exceptional at maths at a very young age,
He's above everybody in class,
This is a good opportunity and a good idea here to possibly take him aside,
Get private classes,
And try to develop this talent to further degrees.
If we're able to develop this talent at a young age,
Everything will naturally flow for this child and they will gain more confidence which will only help them in the future.
This may be even for a sport,
They may naturally be good at rugby.
It is therefore an important thing to try to help them develop it to the best of their abilities.
Some children,
These talents might be one or two or three.
There's no harm to develop all of them to see which road they take them.
Sometimes though,
It is better to develop one mental aspect and one physical aspect.
There are occasions where parents say that there is no talent,
They aren't good at anything.
I find that that is because it hasn't been found yet.
Therefore,
In these cases,
It is sometimes very important to allow the child to do various forms of activities from tennis,
Rugby,
Rowing,
Basketball,
Golf,
Whatever it may be,
But also on the other aspect to look for mental things.
In the West where physical aspects are sometimes so important,
It is in Asia where the mental aspects are so important.
One can learn to play chess or go to debating clubs or whatever it may be.
Really looking for that balance of mind and body is a very important aspect.
The key here is that a parent observes the child from their young age,
Looks for their talents,
Helps them to develop those talents in their own time and in their own way.
