Our relationship with our parents is often fraught with complexities,
As memories of the past blur into one another,
Sentiments held by our inner child,
The hurt,
Anger,
Disappointment,
Guilt.
They remain stuck and budging,
Even with the most persuasive intellect.
This meditation helps you meet your inner child with grace,
Compassion and love.
It may also open your eyes to view your mother and or father with fresh lenses.
If strong emotions and discomfort arise,
Breathe deeply into the parts of the body that feel affected.
Tell yourself you are safe.
You can pause the session and return to it another time.
When you're ready,
Come into a comfortable position,
Seated or lying down.
Whichever position you choose,
Feel supported and grounded.
Let yourself be held by the sturdiness of your chair or mat,
By the ground and the earth underneath.
Let your breath become long and deep.
Inhale,
Fill your lungs and belly with life.
Exhale and let out a big sigh,
Releasing stagnant energy and tension.
Imagine each inhale as a big loving hug to all of your organs.
And every exhale,
A gentle farewell to all excess thoughts that do not serve your highest good.
Now,
In your mind's eye,
Picture your mother standing right before you.
How does this image make you feel?
Can you locate this feeling in your physical body?
Notice where it is residing and what it is saying.
Breathe into this physical sensation.
Observe without judgment.
Say to yourself,
I send love to my discomfort.
I send love to my discomfort.
I send love to my discomfort.
I send love to my discomfort.
To my discomfort.
I send love to my discomfort.
Imagine this physical sensation as a glowing ball of energy.
Allow it to move along your body and then exit through the soles of your feet.
Breathe.
Breathe.
Now,
In your mind's eye,
Picture your father before you.
How does this image make you feel?
Locate this feeling within your physical body.
Where is it?
And what is it saying?
Once again,
Breathe deeply into any tension or pain.
Into any tension or pain.
And say to yourself,
I send love to my discomfort.
I send love to my discomfort.
I send love to my discomfort.
Turn this feeling into a glowing ball of energy.
Let this ball of energy move along your body.
And then exit through the soles of your feet.
Breathe.
Now imagine two glowing pink threads extending from you until each thread connects with your mother and your father.
Notice as the pink thread extends through them to your grandparents,
Great-grandparents,
And all the generations that came before them.
Allow yourself to send love to your mother,
Your father,
And your ancestors.
If emotions arise,
Give yourself permission to feel without judgment towards yourself or to anyone else.
For now,
Let these feelings simply be.
Say to yourself,
I witness my emotions without judgment.
I honor and care for myself.
I send love to me at every age.
I send love to me at every age.
I send love to me at every age.
Now take three clearing breaths.
On your exhale,
Sigh out any remaining tension and strain.
Offer yourself gratitude for sitting through this practice with courage and openness.
Take all the time you need.
Whenever you are ready,
Gently open your eyes and return to the present moment.
