Can you think of something or someone that you have struggled to let go of or to release control of? When we let go of resistance, we let go of an attachment to something. We often think that we need certain things to be happy. We resist what is because we want more or something else. When we are happy in the present moment, it is the beginning of true change and letting go. Letting go does not mean accepting or forgetting. We let go to release the hold/impact/control it has on our lives.

Transcript

Welcome to today's meditation.

We are now going to focus on our breath.

Please close your eyes when you are ready and make sure that you're in a comfortable position.

Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth during this meditation.

Now bring your attention to your body.

If you are sitting down,

Allow yourself to sink into the chair and if you are lying down,

Allow yourself to feel the bed or the ground beneath you.

Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth another three to five times.

Notice how it feels to become more aware of your physical body.

Bring your attention to the soles of your feet,

Your knees,

Your legs,

Your stomach,

Your chest,

Your arms,

Your shoulders,

Your neck,

Your face and up to the top of your head.

Bring your attention back to your breath.

Just allow yourself to be aware of your body in this moment.

In today's meditation,

We are going to think about the process of letting go.

Letting go does not mean that we accept things and it is not about forgetting.

It can feel like a letting go of the hold,

The impact or the control that something or someone has over our lives.

There are many things in life that we try to control.

Now bring your attention back to your breath.

Eckhart Tolle talks about what you resist persists.

When you let go of resistance,

You let go of an attachment to something.

We sometimes think I need this to happen to happen in order to be happy.

The message this sends us is that I don't want what is,

I want something else.

This often creates resistance and blocks us from being present.

It blocks us from feeling gratitude for all that we do have because we are so focused on what we want or what we don't have.

Now bring your attention back to your breath.

I want you to think about what letting go means to you and just remind yourself that it does not have to mean forgetting and it is often necessary to let go to allow us to move forward in life.

Just allow yourself to breathe while you think about what it means to you.

You can continue to meditate in your own time or you can bring your attention back to your body and when you are ready please open your eyes and come back into the room.
