Rest here,
Exactly as things are.
There is no need to prepare for sleep or move toward it in any way.
Sleep does not respond to effort.
It comes when effort softens,
When trying is no longer needed.
This moment is already enough.
Notice if there is any part of the mind still watching,
Waiting or checking to see if sleep is happening.
That impulse can be gently acknowledged and then allowed to rest.
There is nothing to monitor now.
The body knows how to fall asleep without being guided step by step.
Instead of focusing on the breath,
Allow breathing to fade into the background.
Instead of relaxing the body,
Let the body relax itself.
Nothing needs to be instructed.
Nothing needs to be adjusted.
This is a space of allowing rather than doing.
Thoughts may still arise.
Let them come and go without responding.
No need to push them away and no need to follow them.
Each thought can be treated like a sound in the distance.
Notice briefly,
Then left alone.
The mind slowly loses interest.
If wakefulness remains,
That is not a problem.
Even wakefulness can be rested in.
The effort to fall asleep dissolves and in its place there is a quiet openness.
Often,
Sleep arrives precisely when it is no longer being sought.
From here,
Words become less useful.
Awareness drifts without direction,
Without intention.
The voice fades and the night continues on its own.
Sleep is free to come gently,
Naturally in its own time.
Thank you.
