By becoming sakshi, the Sanskrit word for The Witness we begin to realize how we are not our thoughts and emotions although we may them. Deep relaxation of the mind ensues as the practitioner identifies less with their preconceived notions and personas. Music via Pixabay: Spa Ambient by Rockot

Becoming Sakshi,

The witness.

Come to find a comfortable seat where you can balance your head on top of the spinal column.

You may wish to sit on a bolster or on a block in an elevated way to assist the force of gravity with the knees working their way down towards the earth.

Once you have your seat,

Stick with it.

Let's begin with an exhale.

Exhale all the air out.

Balance your inhales and exhales.

Sama Vritti.

Sama is same.

Vritti is a flow or stream of consciousness.

We tend to take in more than we do exhale.

There are a number of reasons for that.

Diet.

Stress.

Lifestyles.

Inhale.

One,

Two,

Three,

Four.

Exhale.

Inhale.

Exhale.

Two,

Inhale.

You're taking in nourishment,

Filling up.

Exhale,

Giving it away,

Letting it go.

Continue on your own for a few breaths.

Keeping the mouth closed just prevents heat from escaping the body.

Relax the tongue,

The jaw.

In through the nose,

Out through the nose.

Relax the shoulders.

Now,

If you can imagine up to your waist in soil,

The terrestrial forces really rooting your body down through your hips and your buttocks.

While right at the navel,

The celestial force is uplifting you through the corona or crown of the head,

Bringing space and awareness to all the joints,

Organs of the body.

There are these two opposing movements simultaneously happening.

In becoming Sakshi,

Just watch.

Watch the thoughts come and watch the thoughts go.

The emotions come and the emotions go.

In doing so,

We realize that we aren't the thoughts or the emotions,

But we have them in the experiences of our bodies to experience life.

But don't you start thinking the thoughts in any way.

Just watch.

You may wish to slightly crack your eyelids open and with the eyeballs gaze up towards the area between the two eyes where the pineal gland sits,

The pituitary gland sit,

Setting off a cascade of neurotransmitters and hormones responsible for innumerable biochemical reactions in the body.

Also known as the third eye.

Just because when we close our eyes,

It does tend to signal to the body that it's time to go to bed.

So leaving just a little bit of light is useful for that.

You may wish to say a mantra like inhale silently let,

Exhale silently go.

Or a blessings mantra,

Inhale silently thank,

And exhale silently you and a person's name.

Sit with this practice of letting go for just the next few moments.

Let go.

Thank you for joining Marava Unite.

Be well.

Namaste.
