Welcome,

I know today has been a long day,

But tonight,

As millions of stars quietly take their places in the vast sky above,

You're here seeking the same gentle transition from wakefulness to sleep.

Just as rivers naturally flow toward the sea,

Your body and mind have an innate wisdom about rest.

They know the way home to sleep,

Even when it feels elusive.

Settle into your bed now,

Allowing your body to sink into the comfort of the mattress.

Taking a nice deep breath,

Notice how your pillow cradles your head,

How your blankets provide gentle weight across your body.

Take a slow,

Deep breath in through your nose,

And let it flow out naturally through your mouth,

Releasing any tension from the day.

Let your body release the weight of holding itself up,

Allowing it to get heavier and heavier as you breathe and sink into rest.

Imagine your thoughts as autumn leaves,

Floating down a quiet stream.

Some leaves worry about tomorrow,

Replaying conversations from today,

They might try to catch on the banks of your mind.

That is perfectly natural.

Simply notice them,

Then gently guide them back into the flowing water,

Watching as they drift away downstream.

Now bring your attention to your body,

Starting at the top of your head.

Feel the muscles in your scalp and forehead softening,

Like warm honey spreading slowly.

Let this gentle relaxation flow down to your eyes,

Allowing your eyelids to grow heavier and heavier,

As if tiny,

Soft weights are gently pulling them closed.

Your jaw naturally unclenches,

Your tongue rests comfortably in your mouth,

And your neck releases any tension it's been holding.

Feel your shoulders dropping down,

Away from your ears,

As if invisible hands are gently pressing them into perfect relaxation.

Continue this wave of calm down through your arms and your hands,

Becoming loose and relaxed.

Your chest rises and falls in its own natural rhythm,

Each breath deeper,

Calmer and more peaceful than the last.

Let this soothing sensation flow into your back,

Releasing any knots or tight spots,

Then into your abdomen,

Allowing your stomach to be soft and relaxed.

Feeling your hips,

Your thighs and knees,

Join the symphony of rest,

Becoming wonderfully heavy against your bed.

Finally,

Let your calves,

Ankles and feet completely surrender to gravity,

As if roots are gently anchoring you to the earth below.

You are now floating in a warm,

Safe cocoon of tranquility.

If any thoughts are continuing to arise,

Simply acknowledge them,

Like friendly neighbors passing by,

Then return your attention to your breath,

In,

Each exhale taking you deeper and deeper into rest.
