This practice explores simple resting positions designed to feel supportive rather than collapsed. It focuses on using positioning and support to reduce effort and allow the breath to move more freely. The aim is to rest in a way that feels held and steady. Suitable for fatigue, recovery, or times when rest does not usually feel restorative.

Today we're going to be exploring resting positions that can genuinely support you on tired days.

These shapes are not about stretching,

They're about giving your body a sense of ease and containment.

You can choose to explore them on the floor or on a bed if you prefer.

Choose one of these as I describe them.

Option one,

Lying on your back with maybe a cushion under your knees.

This one's great if you want to reduce low back tension and it also helps the breath soften.

Option two is child's pose with plenty of support.

For this,

You'll be resting on your shins and leaning forward with your torso,

Maybe onto a stack of cushions or a folded blanket.

You can always choose to take your knees further apart if it feels helpful and the arms can be wherever they feel comfortable.

Option three is side lying.

For this,

You lie on your side,

Maybe with a cushion between your knees and possibly one under the head.

Let your top arm rest in front of you.

Settle in to whichever shape feels most supportive for you today and take your time.

As you settle into your preferred posture,

Let your breath be natural.

Take time to feel the contact between your body and the support beneath you.

Notice any small sense of weight releasing into this support.

Rest in stillness for a few slow breaths.

If you like,

You could explore lengthening the exhale just a little.

If that feels like too much,

Keep the breath soft and natural.

Allow yourself to be held by the shape you chose.

Nothing to achieve here,

Nothing to improve,

Just rest.

When you are ready,

Come out slowly.

You can return to any of these shapes whenever you need a break.
