In this guided meditation, we will explore strategies for calming the busy mind. It has been called the "monkey mind" when we are in a state of restlessness and not being able to control our thoughts. We will find ways of naming and taming what is on our mind. First, by naming it and then by taming it through clearing a space to access more peace of mind.

Okay,

This one's called Catching the Monkey.

You've heard of monkey mind and that's kind of when you have a busyness in your head and things are just kind of flying from one branch to the next and it's hard to focus,

It's hard to get peace,

Get grounded,

Get present when the monkey mind is really active.

And so you're going to need a piece of paper and a pencil,

A marker,

Something like that.

I guess you could do it on your phone too,

On notes,

But what I want you to do is write down,

Give yourself,

You know,

Just like three minutes,

You can even set the timer and just so you have to pause this meditation just for three minutes and then as you pause it you write down,

Set the timer for three minutes,

Write down everything that's on your mind,

You know,

The things that you have to do,

The things that you're concerned about,

The things that,

You know,

Are on your heart and on your mind.

Just purge it,

Get it all down on a piece of paper and then come back to this meditation.

I'll let you do that.

Welcome back.

So now you have everything on your piece of paper.

If you think of anything else you can just squeeze it in there,

Wherever,

But now I want you to fold that piece of paper in half and so as you do you know that all of the stuff that was kind of flying around you've now captured and put down on a piece of paper or you've put down digitally in your notes on your phone or whatever and so now you can get present.

So this is just a mini meditation to kind of access that peace within.

So I want you to get in a comfortable position.

You can be sitting or laying down and I just want you to take a deep breath and notice the outside of your body,

Where you're resting.

You know,

If you're sitting,

You know,

Your feet are on the floor,

Your seat is in the chair.

If you're laying down,

Just take note of where your how your body is resting,

Where your hands are placed,

How your legs are and I ask you to take a breath in and release it.

Just get just a tiny bit more comfortable as you prepare for this little meditation.

You're noticing the outside of your body but now I want you to drop into that inner place,

That sacred space that's just yours.

It's where you're the light of who you are is the flame within where God resides in you.

Just go to that space and let the monkeys know that they can come but when you notice them just just set them to the side.

We want this space to just be for you.

So the monkey mind,

We try to calm it,

Purge it,

Acknowledge it and if a couple more strays come in,

That's okay.

Just notice them and ask them to sit to the side for now because this is your time for your meditation.

So I want you to just kind of just relax and be aware of a beautiful light shining above your head.

This is a golden beautiful light.

It can be you know however you want to name it.

I like to think of it as the light of God that just shines down on us all the time especially when we become aware of it.

Just notice that golden light above your spiritual chakra which is at the crown of your head and just kind of allow that golden light to kind of almost just kind of bathe you.

It sort of drips down across your forehead.

It's like kind of like honey you know it just kind of goes slowly but it's really relaxing your mind,

Your jaw,

Your shoulders.

Just notice that extra warmth and relaxation that's just dripping down,

Relaxing your chest,

Your torso,

Your hips,

Your thighs.

And allow it to kind of relax your knees,

Your calves,

Your ankles,

Your feet,

Your toes.

Just allow that light to just bathe you for now.

Just relax your body and give you a sense of peace and warmth.

You can stay right where you are and allow that relaxation to help you just go to sleep.

Maybe you're going to take a nap or maybe it's time for bed.

Maybe you just want to spend this peace time just allowing yourself to be nourished by this light.

So I'm just going to let you go there and I'll see you at the next one.
