Creating Space Through Accepting & Allowing - A Breathing Practice
by Jassany
A simple breathing practice. A practice of accepting, healing, releasing & allowing. We begin by getting comfortable then diving in. Within. Checking in. Noticing. Then we begin to breathe. We bring the same acceptance to the breath. And through this acceptance, we create space for releasing and opening.

Hello.
Take a moment to get comfortable.
You can sit up tall.
You can lay down.
Just giving yourself this space to really be here,
To really listen,
To really be present so that you can have a full experience.
So letting go of other things you have to do,
Even if just for a moment.
Take this moment to go within,
To connect to yourself,
To notice what's going on within you.
What part of you needs your attention right now?
Just by being here,
Allowing yourself to fully be here,
Not doing anything else,
You're bringing this attention to yourself,
To that world within,
To your thoughts,
To your feelings.
Just taking a moment to check in.
Invite you to close your eyes gently if you haven't already.
Find the length in your spine.
If you're sitting up,
Gently draw the tailbone down.
As you inhale,
Take the pelvis in and up.
Feel the length in the spine and relax your shoulders down away from your ears.
Feel a pull from the crown of your head up towards the sky.
Notice the length at the back of your neck.
Then exhale here.
Let your hands rest on your lap,
Palms facing down.
If you're laying down,
Just let your arms open out wide,
Palms face up.
Wherever you are,
Just notice your body.
Notice what your body is resting on.
What is supporting you?
See if you can feel the sense of being held.
Become aware of the earth that's underneath you,
Holding your body up so that you can be here,
Whether you're in a bed or sitting down on the floor.
Just notice that sense of support from something that's under you that allows you to be here,
That allows you to sit up tall,
To move around.
Knowing that you're supported,
That you have a foundation,
Begin to give yourself permission to be here.
Let the eyelids soften.
Start to feel the softness in your eyes as the eyelids become heavy,
Letting go of seeing,
Starting to tap into yourself,
Into your breath.
Notice how it feels to start going within,
Seeing the darkness,
Letting it be without judgment,
Without trying to describe what the darkness looks like when you close your eyes,
Letting it be just an experience.
It's safe for your eyes to relax.
Begin to notice your breath without judgment,
Without trying to control it.
Notice your breath being alive.
See if you can see what your natural breath is doing,
Becoming curious,
Wondering,
Exploring,
Saying hmm,
What's going on?
Just bringing a sense of curiosity to what your natural breath is like before you do anything to it.
Maybe it's faint and subtle and distant.
Maybe it's strong and forceful and deep.
Just see if you can let your breath be rather than trying to control your breath.
Practice allowing.
This is a practice of allowing,
Allowing every part of you to be just as it is.
And we're going to start with your breath.
So if you caught yourself changing your breath,
Trying to make it deeper,
Stronger,
Trying to make it more worthy,
How someone could say what could be the perfect yoga breath.
Rather than do that,
Just come back to noticing,
Let your breath be natural.
Start from the beginning.
Notice your natural breath before the mind kicks in and tries to make it be something different.
Notice how it's this little seed of life,
This air that moves inside you,
Allowing you to be here in your body,
Working so that you can be alive and have a voice so that all your cells can have oxygen.
Just letting your breath be just as it is.
See how it feels safe when it's allowed to just be,
When you give it permission to be just as it is.
It's this acceptance that begins to create space.
Your breath feels like it has permission,
Like it's perfect just as it is.
So it gets a little proud and it naturally begins to deepen.
Starts to gain momentum,
It starts to feel its own power just because you brought your awareness to it.
Start to feel your breath feeling its own power.
You have a little more space so it can move freely.
Notice what happens when you take your breath to new places in your body.
When you take it a little deeper,
A little longer,
Try it.
Not necessarily controlling it.
Just watching it expand on its own,
Experimenting with allowing it,
Exploring how far your breath can go all on its own,
You're just there watching.
Continue to breathe.
Feel how your breath starts to grow.
Whenever we breathe,
Sometimes tension might come up,
Tightness,
And the sinuses somewhere in the body.
And know that that's just your body's way of bringing your attention to the places that need healing where there's constriction.
And rather than overwork it or try harder to get in there,
We create space by softening.
So as you take a deep breath in,
This time an intentional breath,
Notice where you have tightness,
Constriction,
Maybe the face,
The eyelids,
The back of the neck.
Then exhale,
Accept,
Allow.
This creates space for softening.
Take another deep breath in,
In through your nose.
Notice tightness.
Let it be without judgment.
Exhale,
Allow it,
Not changing,
Just accepting,
Noticing,
Letting be.
It's how we did with your breath.
You start by just letting it be natural.
And through this action of allowing,
Of letting be,
It opens.
And it has space to exist,
To be seen.
Then it heals naturally.
Just through allowing rather than resisting,
Trying to get rid of fighting,
This creates further tension in the mind and in the body.
And we allow space opens.
Take a deep breath in.
Open throat,
Open mouth,
Exhale.
One more time,
Deep breath in through the nose.
Slow and deep.
Hold the breath for a moment.
Let the tension gather wherever you notice it.
When you feel like you have to breathe out,
Take a little more air in.
You don't have to believe everything the mind says.
You are more capable than you think.
Then open mouth,
Open throat,
Exhale.
Give yourself permission to truly release out through the mouth,
Open throat,
Inhale.
All the way to the top of the lungs.
A little more air in.
Then exhale.
Feel the release.
So you're going to inhale,
Notice tightness,
Notice grasping and tension.
Exhale out through your mouth,
Soft and relief.
Imagine that every time you breathe in,
You notice the parts of you that need attention that feel closed and tight.
And every time you exhale,
Your breath sense lightness,
Relief,
Healing to these areas just by softening.
Deep inhale.
Open mouth,
Exhale.
It spreads into your whole body.
Deep breath in.
Exhale out into your whole body,
Releasing tension.
Inhale,
Feeling softness.
Exhale.
Bring your attention to your hands.
This time you're going to take a deep breath in and the exhale energy is going to move out through your hands,
Releasing tension through the fingertips.
So deep breath in.
Exhale out through your hands.
Imagine that tension is leaving your body through your fingertips,
Down into the earth,
Transmuting.
Take a deep inhale.
Exhaling breath out.
Feel the space at the back of your neck.
Gently soften your chin slightly towards your chest.
Keep the length in your spine.
Keep feeling the pool from the crown of your head,
Your sitz bones rooting down into the earth.
Just return to your natural breath in and out through your nose.
You can take this practice with you anywhere you go.
Use the in breath,
The inhale to notice tension.
Accept,
Allow.
And exhale into it through that same acceptance,
Letting it soften on its own time,
Not forcing it to be anything that it's not.
The ease and flow in your body,
In your mind.
You can bring this acceptance to all aspects of yourself,
Your emotions,
Your thoughts,
The things going on in your life.
You can stay here as long as you want,
Just breathing,
Just being.
Whenever you're ready at your own pace,
You can find some gentle movement in your fingers,
Your toes.
And open your eyes whenever you're ready.
My name is Jessani and thank you for being here,
For listening,
For being receptive to something different.
Namaste.
