This meditation is intended for anyone hoping to form a new relationship with their pain. The practice guides you to be curious about the body's physical sensations so that you can get to know it not only on a physical level, but also on an energetic/spiritual level. Once we approach it without fear, we can redefine what we are experiencing and make room for growth/learning. A component of this practice involves a tensing-up and releasing exercise. Be gentle with yourself, listen to your body, and let this be subtle if needed. I am not a licensed medical professional. This practice is not intended as medical treatment. Today's meditation is intended for those of you with acute pain,

Wherever you might feel it in your body.

All pain is a signal from our nervous system asking us to pay attention.

Instead of resisting the pain,

Let's consider tuning in and asking the hurt part what it needs in this moment.

Start by closing your eyes,

Getting comfortable in a quiet space.

Take several inhales and exhales,

Tuning in to your breath,

The gentle rise and fall of your belly.

Allow yourself to feel open and curious.

Rather than approaching our pain with fear,

Embrace the uncertainty and get ready to explore the depths of your internal world.

Ask yourself now,

Where is the pain coming from?

Maybe you think you know,

Shoulder,

Knee,

Maybe the stomach.

But tune in further,

Localize it,

Zoom in,

And move attention to that specific area of that part of the body.

Again,

With curiosity,

Not fear.

And when you feel like you've localized it,

Go even deeper.

See if you can explore on a microscopic cellular level.

See if you can visualize the pain on an energetic level.

And from there,

Maybe you can even visualize it on a spiritual level.

What is its purpose?

Why is it here?

What is its message for you?

Examine this for a moment.

Not fighting or resisting,

Just listen.

Listen to the heartbeat of the pain.

Listen to the song it sings.

What is its job?

What is its function?

Perhaps it's protecting you.

If so,

Thank it.

A lot of times we shield ourselves from a deeper truth because we believe this will cause even more pain.

But the truth is,

This is not benefiting us and perhaps causing even more pain.

Ask your pain if it would be willing to redefine its role,

No matter what it is.

If it's still hesitant,

Provide it reassurance.

You are now listening.

You no longer neglect its needs.

Now,

With whole body cooperation,

Visualize the pain as a color.

What color does it appear?

Again,

Be curious.

See if the pain also comes to you as a shape.

Maybe it has sharp edges,

Or maybe it's round.

Don't judge it.

Just be curious.

Does it move in a certain direction,

A certain way?

Possibly up and down,

Or maybe side to side?

Or even sporadically in all directions?

Now that the pain is no longer hiding,

And feel comfortable revealing itself through this image,

Make it feel recognized and admire it.

And say out loud or internally,

I see you.

Say it with pride.

I see you.

Say it with empathy and care.

I see you.

Now take a pause and imagine something that feels safe.

Maybe a location like a beach,

An item like an old rocking chair,

Or even a person.

And now notice it like we did with the pain.

What color does this image elicit?

Does it have a specific shape?

And finally,

How does it move?

Take a moment to be here with this safe,

Healing image.

Take a couple breaths,

Just breathing it in.

Just allowing that safe,

Healing image into your entire being.

And when you're ready,

Let's localize it and breathe it into the part of our body with the pain.

Imagine the safe shape,

Color,

Movement,

And sharing it with healing energy,

With the image you generated of that pain.

Notice how it changes,

Possibly reforms.

You're just sending and sharing whatever message you wanted to share in conjunction with peace,

Love,

And light.

Similar to a PNF stretch.

We're now going to tense up this part of our body for a couple seconds and quickly release.

We'll do this for three repetitions.

So when you're ready,

Squeeze one,

Two,

Three,

And release.

Again,

Squeeze one,

Two,

Three,

And release.

And one last time,

Squeeze one,

Two,

Three,

And release.

Good,

Feel the release,

How things may have shifted in the body.

As we do these exercises,

It's important to realize we might not have a sudden change,

But a shift may occur in the day or the next couple days.

Some of us get instantaneous relief and others take time.

That's okay.

Be patient and let your body heal as quick or slow as it would like to.

Again,

It's so important to provide the pain in our body all of the attention it needs.

Let it understand that you heard and will continue to always listen.

It can now communicate with you through other mediums,

Perhaps art or music.

Allow your music,

Allow your pain to be expressed in whatever form it would like to express its pain through.

Consider possibly a daily dialogue and coming back to this meditation as many times as you need to find the relief and healing that you seek.

Let's take one last deep breath,

Really vocalizing the ethic cell through the mouth.

Hopefully,

You were able to release something there.

And until next time,

I wish you a day filled with limitless potential.
