This practice is designed to help you express and explore various emotions through the movement of your body.
It's a journey of self-expression,
Where your body speaks the language of your emotions.
Find a comfortable space,
Where you can move freely without obstruction.
The space should feel safe and private.
Begin by standing or sitting in a comfortable position.
Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to center yourself.
Feel your feet firmly planted on the ground.
Imagine roots extending from your feet deep into the earth,
Grounding you.
Begin to engage with emotions.
Connect with anger.
Think of something that triggers a mild feeling of anger.
Notice how your body reacts.
Does your heart rate increase?
Are your fists clenched?
Begin to move as your body wants to express this anger.
It could be through stomping,
Fast movements,
Or tense gestures.
Move however your body wants to move to express the feeling,
The sensation of anger.
Shift your thoughts to something that evokes sadness.
Observe how your body language changes.
Do your shoulders droop?
Is your movement slower?
Allow your body to express this sadness.
It might be through gentle swaying,
Drooping movements,
Or a folding posture.
Notice what it feels like to be in your body while it experiences sadness.
Now begin to explore fear and frustration.
Think about what scares you or causes frustration.
Notice the sensations in your body,
The tightness in your chest,
The churning in your stomach.
Express these feelings through your movement.
This might be a more jittery motion,
Abrupt stops and starts,
Or protective gestures holding your body in,
Pushing out to move away the fear.
Embracing calm and joy.
Now bring to mind a calming,
Joyful thought.
Find the release in your body,
The easing of tension,
The lightness.
Move in a way that expresses this joy and calm.
It could be through fluid,
Rhythmic dancing,
Or gentle,
Expansive movements.
Whatever brings your body calm and joy,
Move in that way.
Now think of other emotions to embody.
Connect with an emotion like surprise.
What does surprise look and feel like in your body when you notice it?
How do you move in surprise?
Now how do you move in curiosity?
What does curiosity feel like in your body?
What does it look like when you express it?
And now love.
How do you move when you feel love?
When you love in your body.
Notice how each of these emotions affects your body and your movement.
Gradually begin to slow your movements.
Come to a still position,
Standing or sitting,
And take a few deep breaths.
Reflect on the experience.
Use the power of your body to express and release all of these different emotions.
Take a moment to thank yourself for engaging in this practice.
As you open your eyes and move on with your day,
Carry with you a heightened awareness of your emotional and bodily connection.
