A Starfish Meditation

How are you handling the world right now in the era of Coronavirus? This meditation will give you a clear process to know when you are in fear, and how to shift into peace. Your awareness and your breath are the keys to be present in each moment.

We are living in extraordinary times when every day there is more uncertainty,

Fear,

And instability.

What's happening?

Why is the world shifting beneath our feet?

Why is this happening?

We sob as another business closes.

We hear the news that our job just got eliminated.

Fear is a virus just as subtle and inconspicuous as the coronavirus.

Fear is contagious and feels real,

Causing us to hoard goods and wrap ourselves in protectiveness.

But we can move through fear with intention,

Attention,

And awareness that something more is going on.

Let's move into that space of courage and love.

Right now take a deep breath in,

Feeling your belly expand as life-giving oxygen passes through your nose,

Down the back of your throat,

And swirls in your lungs.

Sigh out your exhale,

Feeling your belly contract as the air flows back up your lungs,

Up the back of your throat,

And leaves your mouth on a sigh.

Let's do that again one more time.

Feel your body relax and your mind calm as I take you on a journey.

Imagine that you are walking on the beach,

The waves crashing against the boulders that are some distance up ahead.

You feel the sand being gritty beneath your toes and you smell the tang of ocean air while seagulls call to each other on the wind.

The sound of the crashing waves vibrates through your whole body as the rays of Sun eliminate droplets of water caught in midair.

The ocean is timeless,

Ageless,

And ever-changing.

Each wave is unique and liquid,

Molding to the harder surfaces easily and effortlessly.

The rhythmic motion of the waves crashing on the sand,

Then withdrawing,

Leaving a froth of bubbles is hypnotic and soothing.

You are peaceful and alert,

Calm and certain that you are safe.

As you continue to breathe,

You walk closer to the boulders and notice that the intensity of the energy has spiked.

You feel the water slam up against the solid surface of these huge boulders,

Causing an explosion of a million water droplets in all directions.

The noise is deafening,

But you are drawn to a place behind the boulders.

The ocean cannot reach this small alcove and you notice a calm pool of water.

You can still hear the fierce noise of the ocean,

But it has dimmed as your attention is drawn to what is inside this calm pool of water.

It's a beautiful stark white starfish that lies just under the surface of the water.

The shape of the starfish gently directs the water and you know that this place is safe.

This moment is where calm,

Peace and love exist.

This moment of now is where love,

Peace and calm exist for you.

You can still hear the ocean pounding on the rocks,

But the sound has receded as you continue to look at the starfish lying peacefully in its small pool of water.

You no longer worry about the other side because here with this beautiful starfish you are serene and peaceful.

As you breathe in this moment it fills your body with the same calm energy as the starfish.

You find yourself becoming one with this energy and you actually see it fill up and surround your physical body with healing love and light.

Every time you breathe you draw in more of the healing light and when you exhale the tension and stress that you've accumulated on your journey here is all released,

It all dissolves.

As you continue breathing in the healing love and light the starfish becomes your anchor and your guide.

You know that as long as you keep the starfish as your talisman,

As your anchor and breathe in this way of breathing in light and exhaling any resistance,

Any fear that you will show up peaceful,

Present and knowing with absolute certainty that this is your natural state of being.

You are here to remind yourself of a greater truth that when you are in fear it takes you around to the other side of the boulders where you feel crashed and pummeled by the fierce ocean and you feel like there's no control.

But when you breathe in the light and exhale fear you discover that you merge with the starfish and you know that that is the way that you want to live.

You want to feel that you are loved,

That you are here for a purpose and that you as love can give and receive as easily and effortlessly as the ocean waves come onto the shore and then recede.

And they come onto the shore and recede.

And they come onto the shore and recede.

This is your life because in every moment you decide which side of the rocks you want to be on.

It doesn't matter what's going on outside of you,

It's your intention and your decision as to whether you want to react with fear and be on the turbulent side of the boulders or you take a minute,

A moment to breathe in light and breathe out any stress and then respond to whatever is happening outside.

You can choose either way of being,

Either the crashing waves or the starfish,

Either fear or love.

Always and forever it's a choice that you make in each moment.

You now know that the contrast between these two ways of being,

Between fear and love,

Is something that you will always remember and you are filled with such gratitude for having felt and experienced this lesson so clearly.

And you take one more deep breath and look at the starfish and its shape and peacefulness and calm and presence are now embedded in your mind's eye.

And you know that whenever you feel any stress or tension or you know that you've gone into fear,

You can do this breathing exercise and imagine the starfish and breathe in the light and exhale the fear.

Breathe in the light,

Exhale the fear.

Your awareness now knows what to do and you have a wonderful tool that is always at your disposal,

Your breath.

Your breath can take you to the crashing side of the boulders or back to the calm side of the starfish.

And you know when you're on the crashing side because your breathing will shorten,

It will become more erratic and your heart will pound faster and that's the time to step around to the calm side of the boulder and do the breathing of light in and exhaling the fear.

So as you begin to return to your body,

There is no regret or shame,

Just the awareness that now you know better.

You know how to choose love in every moment and you now know that even though someone else may be in fear,

You as love can be the calm,

Peaceful center and help them move out of fear and back into love.

So breathe in that truth,

Breathe in that awareness because you have returned to your power to choose in any moment your way of being.

And love is your way,

Love is your truth and love is your message.

So go ahead and begin to feel yourself return to your body,

Wiggle your fingers and toes and then stretch your arms up high and open your hands to receive all the love that always surrounds you.

It's all around you and it can be in you when you breathe in the love light and exhale the fear.
