Welcome to Soulful Journeys,

Transforming trauma and healing lives.

The podcast where we embark on a deeply transformative exploration of the human experience as we navigate the paths of resilience and recovery and renewal,

Guided by stories of triumph and healing.

In each episode,

We'll embark on soulful journeys and now and then I'll be joined by survivors and therapists and healers who've courageously transformed their trauma into sources of strength and wisdom.

Together,

We'll uncover the power of the human spirit and the tools that can help you to heal and thrive.

I'm your host Belinda and I'm honoured to be your companion on this empowering voyage of self-discovery and growth.

So let's deep dive into the heart of healing.

Trauma is a challenging experience that can impact a person's life in so many ways.

It can cause long lasting emotional and physical distress and it can make it really difficult for people to move forward and live a fulfilling life.

If you or someone you know has experienced trauma,

It's essential to know that healing is possible.

So here's a step-by-step guide to help you heal from trauma.

The first step is acknowledging that it exists and many people try to push their trauma aside and this can only worsen the situation.

You need to accept that what happened to you was real and your feelings are valid and that it has affected you.

So I invite you to take the time to reflect on your experiences.

This includes acknowledging how you feel and where you feel it in your body and give yourself the time and space to validate yourself,

To witness and then to process the emotion and that is where it sits in your body and the impact that the trauma has had on your life.

Step two is to seek professional help.

Trauma can be really overwhelming and it's really important that you know that you don't have to go through it alone.

Seeking help from a therapist or a counsellor or practitioner who specialises in trauma counselling or trauma-informed care can help you work through your emotions and develop coping mechanisms and provide you with that support that you need to move forward.

In my experience,

Just doing talk therapy alone did not help me move through trauma.

Get the somatic in it as well.

The trauma sits in your body,

It sits with emotions and emotions are felt.

So you need to deal with the feeling and the emotion and that isn't in your head,

That is in your body,

If that makes sense.

Step three is practising mindfulness.

Mindfulness is actually an excellent tool for managing stress and promoting emotional healing.

It can help you focus on the present moment and this allows you to let go of the negative emotions and thoughts that you might be carrying.

So try practising mindfulness techniques such as deep breathing or meditation or yoga or anything that helps you to calm your body and your mind.

You're basically wanting to get out of your head because in your head is where it's all analytical and you're judging and dissecting and picking it all apart.

You need to get out of your head and down into your heart and into your body.

Step four is building a support network.

Building a support network is crucial for trauma healing.

Surrounding yourself with people who understand your experiences and can provide you with that emotional support that you need in a way that you need.

Joining a support group or an online community can also be beneficial.

Step five is take care of yourself.

Taking care of yourself and treating yourself with loving kindness and compassion is essential in trauma healing.

This includes getting enough sleep,

Eating a healthy diet and engaging in physical activity and being really present to your thoughts,

Your actions and your emotions so that you can recognise what's coming up and witness it.

Taking self-care includes activities that bring you joy,

Such as reading or taking a bath or going for a walk in nature or even just sitting down,

Relaxing and either taking in your surroundings or just watching trash TV so you can tune out and not think.

Don't underestimate the value of trash TV.

Healing from trauma is a journey and it takes time and it's not linear.

It's essential to be patient with yourself and trust the healing process.

Remember you are not alone and there is hope for the most amazing and bright future.

Thank you for joining me on another soulful journey.

I hope today's episode has brought you insights and inspiration and a sense of connection.
