When you hear the word surrender,
What do you think of?
Do you think of it as giving up?
Or do you think of it more allowing,
But you being in control and just allow what comes,
Comes?
It's important for us to process what surrender means because we are often asked to surrender to things in life.
Today in this meditation,
I want you to get into a comfortable position and breathe or take a deep breath.
And I want you to imagine yourself swimming in the ocean,
Just feeling the water and just swimming along.
And all of a sudden,
A riptide comes and starts pulling you.
Do you fight against it for fear or perhaps not knowing better?
Or do you surrender and allow your body to go where the riptide takes you?
For those of you that swim in the ocean know,
You are doomed if you try to fight against the riptide.
The riptide will always win the power of the water.
And so imagine yourself now in this riptide,
Surrendering,
Keeping your head above water and just floating and finding the current and going with it versus against it.
How does that feel?
Where does it take you?
Imagine.
If you were to give up and just stop,
You would drown altogether.
I'm not asking for you to give up.
I'm asking you to allow the current,
Allow the flow to take you.
Do you feel the difference?
Do you hear the difference between surrendering,
Allowing and surrendering with the definition of giving up?
Because they are two different things.
And I want you to just take a deep breath in and letting go.
Letting go.
What is the situation that you've come into that you have felt like you surrendered to,
That you just allowed?
Is it trusting someone or something?
The surrendering to allow gives us more peace by surrendering.
You're also trusting in a different outcome than doom and gloom.
I want you to feel into that trusting,
Allowing,
Surrendering.
Now I want you to think about the belief of trusting as giving up.
Give up.
What is something that has happened in your life that you just gave up,
That you just quit?
Not wrong,
Not right,
Not judging it,
Just observing it.
What is something that you've just quit on?
Does that feel like surrendering to you?
I give up.
I'm done.
I quit.
I quit.
Or perhaps quitting is not surrendering.
This is for you to decide,
For you to understand.
Now I want you to take a deep breath in and letting go out.
I just want you to feel into yourself and I want you to surrender,
Allow the power of your breath to just release you,
Relax you,
Help you let go.
Breathing and being,
Surrendering to this very moment to allow versus give up.
Remember,
It is our own belief systems that limit us.
And so I ask for you to try to expand to the beliefs,
To the definitions of words,
To be more than what you've thought before,
For being possibilities,
Endless possibilities,
To not allow yourself to be restricted,
To not allow yourself for fear to take over,
To not allow yourself to have negativity fill your thoughts with,
I just give up.
And that is surrendering in your mind because giving up and surrendering I believe are two very different things.
And both are just what they are,
Not good,
Not bad,
Just is.
And I hope today you find yourself in the space of discovering that surrendering can set you free,
Like floating in a riptide,
Like floating in the ocean,
Like being set free.
Thank you.
