Late summer is the season of the earth element.
In Chinese medicine,
The world and our bodies are understood through five elements,
Wood,
Fire,
Earth,
Metal and water.
Each element governs organs,
Emotions and seasonal qualities,
Guiding the flow of energy through the body,
Your mind and spirit.
Earth governs the spleen and stomach,
Responsible not only for digesting food,
But also for transforming thoughts and experiences.
It is the season of harvest and nourishment.
A time to return to your center,
To cultivate stability and allow clarity and calm to emerge.
When earth is balanced,
You feel grounded,
Nourished and supported.
When out of balance,
It can bring worry,
Overthinking and heaviness in the body or mind.
This meditation invites you to connect deeply with your inner earth,
Your center of nourishment,
Stability and clarity.
Come and find a comfortable position,
Either seated or laying down.
You can choose to close your eyes or look for a spot to look at with a soft gaze.
Then let your body soften.
And notice the weight of your body,
The steadiness of your bones.
And sense the taste of sweetness in your mouth,
The natural flavor of the earth element.
And listen inward,
As though the earth itself were humming beneath you.
Breathe in,
Imagine the scent of ripe fruit,
The smell of sun-warmed soil.
And see a golden light filling your inner vision,
Like fields at harvest time.
Now place one hand on your belly and the other on the side of your ribs.
As you inhale,
Feel the belly gently expand,
Drawing in nourishment.
As you exhale,
Feel your whole body soften into the earth beneath you.
Now bring your attention to a warm golden light,
Gathering just below your eyes,
At the base of your cheekbones.
This light begins to travel downward,
Flowing gently along the front of your body.
It glides across your chest,
Suiting your heart space.
Then down to your abdomen,
Through the center of your belly,
Where nourishment is digested and transformed.
And continuing down the thighs,
Knees,
Along the shins,
Reaching the tops of your feet,
And then flowing into each toe.
This golden river of light brings steadiness,
Grounding,
And a deep sense of being held by the earth.
Now imagine that same golden light rising upward,
Through the inner arches of your feet.
It travels along the inner ankles,
Up the inside of your calves,
Gathering warmth in your knees.
Then the light continues up the inner thighs,
Spiraling gently upward through the pelvis,
Into the belly.
It moves across the center of your body,
Rising up the chest,
And finally resting in the heart.
Feel the upward current as nourishing,
Uplifting,
And centering,
Like the earth feeding you from its roots into your very core.
Rest here for a few breaths,
Sensing both directions,
The downward stream of grounding and the upward stream of nourishment.
Together they meet in your center,
Creating balance,
Calm,
Clarity,
And trust.
Visualize yourself standing in a golden field at harvest time.
The fruits are ripe,
The air is still warm and sweet,
The earth is abundant.
Breathe in this sense of plenty,
And breathe out gratitude.
Silently repeat to yourself,
I am centered,
I am nourished,
And I return to my earth within.
Rest in this golden field of inner earth,
And feel your whole being nourished and complete.
When you are ready,
Bring your palms together at your heart,
And bow gently inward,
Thanking the earth element for holding you steady,
And carry this golden light of stability into the rest of your day.
Namaste.
