Embracing change.
What is change?
To cause to be different?
To give completely different form or appearance to?
To transform?
To make or become different?
What is it to embrace?
To include or contain as part of something broader?
To surround or enclose?
To accept something enthusiastically?
To include something often as one of a number of things?
To accept something with great interest or enthusiasm?
We all change.
Humans seem to be adverse to change.
They like to be in their comfort zones.
However,
We are constantly changing.
The hippocampus area in the brain that helps us to learn rejuvenates.
Parts of the human body also regenerate,
Such as the liver.
Its function is detoxification.
Our ego mind tries to stay the same to keep us safe.
It has old habits and beliefs.
Things that happened in the past that appeared to keep you safe,
Like sticking to the same friend groups,
Not driving on the motorway,
Not trying new things,
Preparing the same meal,
Going to the same places on holiday,
Driving the same route to work every day.
But the human brain is amazing.
Neuroplasticity is the ability of neural networks in the brain to change through growth and reorganization.
Every time you do something new and different,
You are creating new neural pathways.
Growing and evolving in response to life experiences.
This includes increased capacity for healing.
So it's good for you to do new things,
Try new recipes,
Learn a language,
Drive a different way to work.
It keeps us stimulated and fresh.
It also opens up the possibility of possibility.
This helps us to realize that the old ways of doing things don't always serve us.
Now your ego mind will revolt.
It'll say,
You can't do that.
It'll have a hundred reasons why not to change.
That doesn't mean this is true.
The ego mind likes the status quo,
The way things are now,
The comfort zone.
But only because these old habits and beliefs are to keep you seemingly safe,
But actually they are keeping you stuck.
Notice how many times a day you do the old habits.
Walk the same route,
Drive the same way,
Eat the same breakfast,
Get ready in the morning in the same pattern,
Say the same things.
Notice your speech patterns,
What you tell yourself.
I'm so tired.
I'm ugly.
I'm useless.
I'm not like them.
I'm not clever.
I'll never be able to do that.
These are old scripts that don't serve you.
They keep your creativity at bay.
Once you notice these moments of stagnant thinking or old habits,
You can try to just change one thing.
Notice how that feels.
Does it feel uncomfortable?
Lean into that.
It's okay to feel uncomfortable.
It won't hurt you.
It fires things up.
Does it feel exciting?
What other possibilities are there for change?
Small change?
Big change?
Notice how it feels.
We'll talk more in the next course.
