Release Your Burdens With The Natural World
In this meditation, we will use the imagery of Mother Earth and Father Sky to ground to our roots and connect to our Universe, in order to shed dense, accumulated energy that keeps us stuck and disconnected. All are welcome!
Transcript
Welcome.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day today to meditate and show yourself some love.
My name is Alex.
And in this meditation,
We're going to scan our body in order to reconnect.
And then we're going to ground to Mother Earth,
Pacha Mama,
In order to release in Andean shamanism,
The dense heavy energy that we accumulate throughout our day,
Or week,
Or life in general,
Is called hoocha.
In the West,
We refer to this energy as negative,
But that label doesn't always serve us.
After all,
Energy is without classification.
It simply is.
And heavy energy is a part of our lived experience.
It teaches us how to honor the range of our emotions and struggles.
Pacha Mama is the land upon which we walk,
Live,
Breathe and expand.
We don't own her,
But we are of her and we return to her always.
To her,
We give our hoocha,
Our dense accumulated energy.
We've all heard the saying,
Lay your burdens down at God's feet.
As it turns out,
That's her,
The sweet mother we all know.
Deep in her womb,
At the center of the earth lies a great big fire.
And in this fire,
We release our hoocha.
We release all of our burdens,
Anxieties,
Fears,
Worries and hurts.
We feed this fire by releasing everything and everyone with whom we no longer resonate.
And Pacha Mama transmutes our burdens through her fire until they are reduced to ash.
And the great winds will carry that ash through the worlds,
Reaching Father Sky above us,
And will transmute it into Sami,
Light energy.
Sami is what we would call positive energy,
But it's more than that.
It's the product of our suffering and our surrendering.
It's the way of our wounded warrior journey,
Where no experience,
No matter how heavy,
Is wasted or wished or prayed away.
It all serves a purpose in the end.
I invite you to find a comfortable seat now in whatever position best suits you.
When you're ready,
Begin to close your eyes and rest your hands either on your knees,
In your lap or down by your sides.
Let's collectively take a deep breath in through the nose and then exhale through your mouth,
Side out.
And we'll do that two more times.
Deep breath in through the nose,
Exhale through your mouth.
Let it go.
Last time.
Deep breath in through the nose,
Exhale through your mouth.
Feel your breath now as it normally is.
Let it retreat to the background of your mind where it does what it does best,
Uninterrupted.
Bring your attention to your sitting bones and feel the root into the ground beneath you.
Keep breathing now and with every exhale,
Feel yourself ground a bit more into your seat,
Feeling the heaviness of your root.
And let that heaviness carry itself through your legs and feet and toes until you feel the ground beneath you like a magnet.
So often we can get carried away by the flight of our thoughts.
So feel that ground beneath you and latch onto it.
Imagine great big tree roots growing out of your sitting bones,
Connecting you that much closer to Pachamama.
And it's okay if you're inside of your home or a building or even your car.
Imagine those tree roots pushing past concrete and floorboards and rock,
Digging deeper into the black soil of Mother Earth.
And imagine those roots growing wider and deeper,
Allowing you to take up space.
You are like this tree.
You are these roots grand,
Wise,
Infinite,
Nourishing,
Connecting to the vast network of roots all over the world.
You are a part of Pachamama's rich family.
Take a deep breath in and a deep breath out and settle here.
Now bring your attention to your belly.
Feel your breath and allow your breath to move into your belly space.
This is the seat of our power,
Our intuition,
Our inner compass.
Notice if your belly is constricted or if you're engaging your core center and instead allow your belly to be soft.
Let it also take up space.
As you breathe into your belly,
Let it fold and protrude forward,
Taking up space as it stretches into its power.
If it helps place your palm on your belly now and breathe into it.
This is our first connection to our body.
When we can feel our breath moving between muscle and sinew,
Blood and bone.
If it feels resistant,
Stay there.
We're just meeting our body more intimately now.
Feel the breath move the front of your belly,
The sides and the back along the spine until your breathing with your entire core girdle.
Now bring your attention to your heart space.
Allow your shoulders to drop down your back like you have two heavy sandbags that you're releasing to the floor.
Let the space between your ears and your shoulders open your throat until your collarbones spread into a smile.
And now settle your awareness on your heart.
In Sanskrit,
We call the heart chakra anahata.
It means unstruct,
Unbound.
No matter how many times our heart was cracked open and broken,
It was never destroyed.
As Rumi would say,
We are all broken.
That's how the light gets in.
Feel the subtle vulnerability as you allow the shoulders to expose your radiant heart and let it shine.
Place your other palm over your heart now and breathe here.
Notice as the powerful inhale from your belly floats up towards your heart and catch it there with your mind's eye before you exhale and release.
And every time that you breathe in,
Hold the top of that inhale in your heart space and allow it to illuminate all of the cracks that once hurt you.
And when you exhale,
Let it go.
The pain,
The anger,
The fear,
The silenced cries of keeping yourself small.
Breathe now.
Breathe and feel your body,
The dancing to the life force of your simple awareness.
Relax your brow,
Your eyes and your jaw and feel the crown of your head float up like a feather towards Father Sky.
And at the same time,
Remember your roots growing and connecting to Pachamama below.
Bring to mind something or someone who you are ready to release.
It could be a thought,
An emotion,
A connection or an attachment.
I invite you to feel it in your body.
Where does this energy,
This hoocha live?
Where does it feed at your table like a hungry ghost?
Take a deep breath in to source this energy within you.
And then as you exhale,
Send that hoocha deep down into Mother Earth through your roots.
Send it down deep into the center of the earth and into the roaring fire.
Know that Pachamama accepts all.
There is no burden too heavy or too great.
So send it all.
I'm going to give you some time now to breathe here and move your hoocha into her great fire.
Okay.
.
Take a deep breath in.
Open your mouth to exhale it out.
Take a moment of gratitude to Mother Earth and Father Sky for all the support we have on our journey,
Even when we don't always know how.
We are all in this together.
We are all in this together.
We are all in this together.
We are all in this together.
We are all in this together.
We are all in this together.
We are all in this together.
Take a moment of gratitude for yourself for showing up to your work,
Even when you don't always know how.
Keep your breath moving freely and softly as you begin to wiggle your fingers and your toes and make some small movements with your body.
As you start rushing,
Begin to float your palms together to touch in front of your heart and with a deep inner bow,
Honor yourself.
When you're ready,
Blink your eyes open and return to your space.
Stand where you are and move through your day with ease today.
If you can,
Go outside and step foot onto the land,
Reconnecting with Pachamama.
Allow her to teach you how to walk more softly on her belly.
Namaste.
