After experiencing war trauma and displacement, it can be challenging to feel at home in our bodies. The signals of what our feelings and bodily sensations are trying to tell us are not always clear after trauma. The feeling of being detached from our physical bodies. This meditation helps us find the safety and home within ourselves and empowers us to slow down emotions that come up for a more relaxed response toward healing from PTSD. Recognize the power of your mind in influencing your internal state and how equally powerful it can be to focus on your breath to interrupt negative thought patterns and emotional reactivity.

Imagine yourself sitting in an open field of nature.

There is beauty all around you.

Take this moment now to tune into your breath.

Without forcing,

Gently pay attention to the rise and fall of your belly.

Let's take a breath in together,

A gentle breath out.

When you can become aware of your breath,

You can slow down the emotions that sometimes get the best of us.

And as you begin to see how much of our mind can control how we feel inside,

We can start interjecting this process by just focusing on the power of our breathing for a more relaxed response.

For this moment now,

Step away from your mind.

The passing thoughts,

The tension,

The stress,

The worry.

Let it all go.

Stay present with the rise and fall of your breathing.

Feeling the sun on your body,

The warmth on your skin.

Gently breathe for a few moments on your own with me.

In a time when things can feel so out of control and completely out of our hands,

What can we think and do to not get trapped in the chaos of our own minds?

One thing is to realize that you can only be responsible for yourself.

You are in charge of how you feel and how you react to your day and any mishaps that you feel like might have happened.

The key is to become aware of your breath when things outside of us challenge us.

By slowing down this way,

We can begin to think more clearly.

Our minds become more stable.

We are no longer rattled by the same external circumstances.

The more you practice meditation,

The more you can come back to this moment right here.

Your breath is always here for you to access.

Remembering the sun outside and how it felt on your cheeks,

On your shoulders as you slowly inhale and exhale.

There is nothing to do at this time.

If your intention and breath is focused,

Everything unfolds as it should if you let it happen.

The only thing you are responsible for is bettering your own state of mind,

Your own sense of calm,

Your own sense of safety.

If you can imagine this moment,

Breathe knowing what you want is already yours.

Breathing in,

Say to yourself,

I am safe.

Breathing out,

I am safe.

As we close out this practice,

Remember that by focusing on our breath,

We choose how to feel and how to react.

I am only responsible for myself and today,

I choose to feel good.
