Walking meditations can be so grounding,
Especially when they are outdoors,
But some of us are in the midst of colder months and winter weather that can make it a struggle to get outside.
This meditation is to help you get moving,
Even if it's indoors,
To help ground you through gentle movement on a treadmill.
If you can,
Bring nature near your treadmill to enhance your experience,
Perhaps placing yourself near a window.
This time is for you.
Step onto the treadmill,
Feeling how solid the surface is beneath your feet.
Begin walking at a slow,
Gentle pace,
Not too fast,
Just settling into a soft rhythm.
Notice the way your feet make contact with the tread surface as you take each step.
Notice how your body shifts as you move,
Maybe your hips sway and your arms swing.
Take a deep breath in through your nose and sighing exhale.
Another deep breath in and exhale,
Feeling the tension begin to release from your body.
As you continue to walk,
Gently lengthen and deepen your breaths,
And if your mind begins to wander,
Softly redirect your attention back to your breath or maybe the movement of your body,
And just let yourself be here in this moment.
You are exactly where you need to be.
If you are near a window,
Let your gaze drift outside.
Notice the landscape,
And that while it is currently barren,
There is more beneath the snow.
Winter reminds us that a time of rest and stillness can often mean a time of abundance and growth is near.
Percy Shelley writes,
If winter comes,
Can spring be far behind?
Continue to breathe deeply,
Letting your feet fall one in front of the other.
When you're ready,
Slowly decrease the speed of the treadmill and gently come to a stop.
Take a deep breath in,
Raising your arms above your head to stretch,
And sighing exhale.
Step off the treadmill with love and light.
