A meditation for the lonely heart.

The next few minutes are intended to extend hope and love to the heart that is feeling lonely.

While we have all felt alone at various times in life,

There are those times when we feel it more deeply.

This is a meditation for those deep times.

Begin by acknowledging that you have been feeling the sadness and pain of being alone.

Breathing in and breathing out,

Let yourself notice how this has been affecting you.

Notice any tightness or tension in your body,

Any pain in your heart,

Or in general a sense of discomfort and lack of energy.

Take a moment to acknowledge and then tell yourself that you are here to help.

Tell yourself that in these next few minutes you are willing to give attention and love to yourself and that you choose to trust.

This will ease the suffering and sense of being alone.

Allow yourself to really settle down,

Settle in,

And become alert and aware of where you are,

Both physically and mentally,

Right in this moment.

As you breathe in and breathe out,

Acknowledge you are here,

Right here,

With nothing else to do in this moment.

And so you allow this to be so.

Breathing in,

Slow and easy,

Breathing out,

In and out.

Take your hands and place them gently on your heart,

One hand resting gently upon the other.

Feel your chest rise and fall with each breath.

Hear the beat of your heart and know that it really does beat just for you.

Take this moment to be grateful for your heart.

In the next few breaths,

Allow yourself to imagine all the people you know who also have the gift of a heartbeat right now.

For a moment,

Imagine that your heart beats in rhythm with all those other hearts.

Imagine.

And in this imagining,

Begin to recognize that you really are connected to others,

Whether they are in your presence or not.

Imagine it.

Breathing in and breathing out.

Sense this fact.

And so in those moments when you find yourself feeling down and alone,

Return to this simple action.

Close your eyes.

Breathe.

Feel the beat of your heart.

Imagine all the other hearts that are also beating in this moment.

Let your heart synchronize to the beat.

Feel the connection.

And now,

Open your eyes.

Let yourself smile to your heart.

And vow to reach out to at least one person today and tell them hello.

As you imagine your two hearts beating in time with the other.
