This glimpse practice is called panoramic awareness.
In this practice,
You'll move your awareness around in a full circle,
Starting at the front of your body,
Moving to the sides,
And then behind you,
So that you feel a 360 degrees panoramic awareness.
In order to do this,
You're going to open your peripheral vision.
Now,
Opening your peripheral vision is not moving your eyes at all.
Your eyes will remain relaxed and comfortable in front of you,
And what moves is awareness.
So sit comfortably with your eyes open,
And on this one you can look either directly in front of you,
Or a little bit up,
As if you're looking at the sky while you're sitting on the beach.
Allow your eyes to look into space,
Rather than focusing on any one particular thing.
If it's helpful,
You can do the circle in front of you from top to side to bottom.
So now,
Without moving your eyes or head,
Begin to slowly and gently expand your peripheral vision out to the sides,
Gently opening awareness equally to the left and right without strain,
As your peripheral vision widens,
Allow awareness to continue to open gently around toward the sides of your head.
As awareness moves to the side of your head,
Let it become aware of the space in which sounds are coming and going to your ears,
And continue to open awareness to the felt sense of space behind you where sound is moving.
Feel the sense of spacious awareness all around,
A 360-degree view.
Notice how your view is open in a panoramic way.
Expand your awareness until it reaches the edge of the room or the next object,
And then have awareness turn back to be aware from panoramic awareness.
Ask yourself this,
Am I aware of the field of panoramic awareness or is the field aware of my thoughts,
Sensations,
And feelings?
Notice what that shift feels like when you're aware from the field of panoramic awareness.
Notice the mingling of awareness and space.
On one hand,
It feels like there's no inside and outside,
As the boundless awareness is spacious and pervasive.
But feel the balance of awareness that's equally inside and outside at the same time.
Remain undistracted without going to check on thoughts or daydreams.
Breathe in and allow a smile to come to your face as you feel the awareness and aliveness equally all around and within.
And if your eyes are slightly up,
Let them come down to a normal way of looking in front of you.
Notice how your ears are receiving sound without any effort.
Now notice how in the same way as sound comes to your ears,
That light reflects off of things and comes to your eyes.
Experience seeing is receiving.
And the seeing goes through your eyes to the field of panoramic awareness.
Notice how you're feeling and seeing and being from this spacious and pervasive,
Alive,
Balanced and continuous sense of being that does not come and go.
Notice the feeling of being an ocean of awareness in which the dancing waves of thoughts,
Emotions and energies within arise seamlessly and are welcomed as the joy of being.
Feel that you can connect to things.
Feel that you can connect to thinking without re-identifying.
So with your eyes open,
Feeling this panoramic ground of being,
You can be here and now talking,
Enjoying and doing from being.
