Survival Responses: Freeze Response [Copied]

With Lynn Fraser

Fight, flight, freeze, and fawn are survival responses that are generated by our nervous system when we sense danger. Freeze can look like numb, disconnected, hunkered down for safety. Freeze takes the edge off of painful, overwhelming experiences. We might hold our breath to avoid notice. We disconnect from others. It’s safer “in here”. We’re living a half life. Even when something wonderful happens, it takes a while to sink in because it has to get through layers of protection. Moving from Freeze into Ease. Touch: hand to heart, butterfly hug/tapping, hugging, massaging body. Expansiveness: Notice space around the energy or sensation and invite other parts of the body to come into awareness. Gentle mobilization: slowly move your eyes from side to side, above and below, behind you; gently move your head side to side; bring your arms up as you inhale.
