Engaged Activism & Wise Hope Meditation
With Rebecca Schamess
In my therapy practice I see it: More than ever (pandemic included), people are trapped by survival-level fear, constant rumination, and anxiety about the future. It's easy to let this paralyze us -- how to even begin to work against the forces of the world? Hint: Not by bullying, shaming, or numbing yourself. In order to engage sustainably with nonviolent action, we need radical compassion toward ourselves and others; time for healing, reflection, joy and humor; and what Roshi Joan Halifax calls "wise hope."
Together let us find sources of all of the above as we seek to heal and protect our communities, families, and ourselves — and as we dare to embrace peace and non-violence in the face of injustice and brutality, here and throughout the world.
