Qigong Mindful Movement - Spring Sequence (Wood Element)

With Addie deHilster

Qigong (or Qi Gong or Chi Gong) is a gentle mindful movement and energy practice. Based on Chinese Medicine and Taoist philosophy, these practices take inspiration from nature and help us harmonize with the rhythms of each season. Over the next few months, I will be offering beginner-friendly Qigong routines for balancing the Wood Element Energy of Spring (Liver/Gallbladder Meridians). Note: these practices are still beneficial if you're in the Southern Hemisphere and it's currently Autumn! The Wood Element represents the growth of new life in the Spring. Its energy invites transformation and new visions. This fresh start can come with growing pains, frustration and irritation, which also reflect the imbalanced states of the Liver and Gallbladder Meridians. It’s important to steady the Yang energy of Spring with patience, to avoid overdoing and causing ourselves extra stress. When in balance, these Springtime energies support confident action, clear intention, and a flexible “beginners mind.” The Qigong practices are mostly done standing, but sitting in a chair is always an option, too. Each week you'll see some repeat moves to build familiarity, and we'll also slowly build in some new forms as we go. Feel free to join in, even if you missed previous weeks!
