Awake For Reason: A New Approach to Falling Asleep With Ease

With Ed Fox

Insomnia isn’t just a sleep problem — it’s often a sign that something in the mind or body hasn’t been met yet. During the day, when stress, emotion, or old wounds surface, we usually stay busy, distracted, or focused on getting through. At night, all of that noise falls away. The nervous system finally has space — and what hasn’t been felt, processed, or released often rises to the surface. Sometimes wakefulness isn’t emotional at all. Certain foods, stimulants, or subtle chemical reactions in the body can activate the nervous system, creating restlessness or alertness that has nothing to do with willpower or effort. The body is simply responding to what it’s been given. In this live session, we’ll explore a new approach to insomnia that doesn’t treat being unable to sleep as a problem or something that needs to be fixed. Instead, we’ll look at nighttime alertness as part of the same mind-body process that shows up during the day — just without the usual defenses. This isn’t about techniques to bore yourself to sleep. It’s about creating the conditions where the natural rhythm of sleep allows you fall asleep once again.
