Our ability to be empathetic with others can be limited by the sense of similarity with the other person and the perceived fairness towards that person. This can make it difficult to build meaningful connections with others. We may lack a sense of belonging or feel treated unfairly by the other person. This guided meditation can help to overcome this gap and find a way to connect better with the person. By finding similarities and offering kindness we train to overcome the barriers that stop us from feeling more with the other person. Having a better connection with that person can improve your actual relationship in a big way.

Empathy,

Fueling connections.

Bring to mind a person you would like to connect better with,

A person that has been difficult to work with,

A person that is important to you and you would like to better understand what's going on there.

Bring to mind that person and start by settling in on your breath.

Start by taking a deep breath in followed by a long breath out.

Allow your mind to rest on your breath.

Find a position that is relaxed yet alert at the same time and connect to your breathing.

Breathing in and breathing out.

Imagine that person is sitting right in front of you,

Just a short distance away.

Imagine any time you would open your eyes you could look at that person who is sitting right in front of you.

Continue to take a few deep breaths in and out at your own pace and settling in in the situation,

Being mentally with that person right in front of you.

Let's consider a few thoughts silently in your head.

That person in front of me has a mind and a body just like me.

This person in front of me has wishes and desires just like me.

This person in front of me has been through hard times with emotional and physical pain,

Loneliness,

Suffering,

Feeling of isolation,

Worries and stress just like me.

This person in front of me has been through many good times,

Through laughter and positive emotions just like me.

This person in front of me would like to be accepted in the way they are just like me.

This person in front of me desires to show their authentic self just like me.

This person in front of me would like to be loved and respected for who they are just like me.

Because this person in front of me is a fellow human being just like me.

Let's let some wishes of well-being rise in us towards that person.

You may choose whatever wording you like to express your best intentions for that person.

May you be happy,

May you be free from suffering and pain,

May you be at ease with yourself,

May you live in peace,

May you be happy,

May you find the resources you need to overcome the challenges in your life,

May you be able to live up to your standards and principles,

May you be authentic to yourself,

May you be happy.

Let's extend these positive wishes to the people you love and you care for,

To your family,

Your friends,

Your close ones.

May you all be happy,

May you live in peace,

May you be free from pain and suffering,

May you be happy.

And let's extend these wishes even further beyond to all beings and all things on this planet.

May every living being on this planet be happy,

May all beings be free from pain and suffering,

May we all live in peace,

May we all be happy.

And last but not least turn to yourself,

Do not forget yourself in this.

May I be happy,

May I be free from pain and suffering,

May I live in peace,

May I find the resources to overcome the challenges in my life,

May I be happy.

Let's bring your attention back to your breath and connect to your anchor point where you can feel your breathing most vividly,

Breathing in and breathing out through your nose.

Allow your mind to settle and to rest in this moment.
