Guided Meditation for a Visit to the Dentist
This a guided meditation to listen to while visiting your dentist for those who are fearful of dentistry.
Transcript
As you sit in a dentist chair,
Just breathe.
Just breathe.
Breathe slowly.
Hold it.
Breathe out slowly.
Breathe in slowly.
Hold it.
Breathe out slowly.
Good.
Good.
Just focus on being present.
Being present with your breath.
And when uncomfortable sensations arise,
Just breathe into them.
Know that they won't last.
They will pass.
And by breathing into them,
Their intensity is diminished.
And you are present with your breath.
And with each breath,
A peace,
A calm settles inside of you.
Thus you breathe deeply in.
Gently hold it.
And you breathe out.
And though there may be very many noises around you as you sit in the dentist chair,
Your focus is on your breath.
And you realize how comforting,
How relaxing the breath is.
So that when thoughts distract you,
All you have to do is go back to the breath and breathe.
Breathe slowly.
Hold it.
Breathe slowly.
Imagine with each breath,
You're building within yourself a tolerance,
A tolerance to withstand the sensations that occur as you sit in the dentist chair.
You develop an ability to relax because your muscles,
Your whole body with each breath relaxes.
And if you feel any sensations that cause tension,
All you have to do is breathe.
Breathe slowly.
Hold it.
And breathe out slowly.
And so the longer you sit in the dentist chair,
The more relaxed you become.
You're at ease because you now have tools,
Tools for relaxation,
Tools to be present with your breath.
And the breath,
Even when things seem intense,
Can be very comforting,
Very relaxing.
And all you have to do is breathe.
Just breathe.
And when there are sensations as you sit in the dentist chair that fight against you,
That try to create worries,
All you need to do is breathe.
Breathe deeply.
And with each breath,
Comfort,
Peace settles upon you.
And you can remain relaxed.
You can find calmness amidst the noisiness all around you.
As you focus on my voice,
As you focus on your breath,
Feel the peace that is deep inside of you,
Always available.
All you have to do is tap into it.
And it's very easy to tap into.
Just breathe.
Be present with your breath throughout your time in the dentist chair.
And what you will find is that time will go well.
It will be a peaceful experience.
Not tense,
But calm.
So that as you're sitting in the dentist chair,
Your focus is on your breath.
Breathing in slowly,
Holding it,
Breathing out slowly.
Good.
Good.
Just remember,
There are two things that will help you have a good experience at the dentist.
One is to watch your thoughts and keep your thoughts focused on what I'm saying or on your breath.
Because your thoughts can only be on one thing at a time.
And if they're on my words or your breath,
Then you will find peace.
But the second thing is that the breath can help with the negative sensations.
When they do occur,
All you have to do is breathe deeply.
Hold it,
Then breathe out.
Breathe deeply in.
Hold it,
And then breathe out.
Then this visit to the dentist is going well.

Wonderful! 🙏 Over an hour in the dentist's chair and hardly any anxiety. I had the meditation on repeat and rather loud to tune out the awful drilling noises. Thank you and recommendations 👍🏻
