Unconditional Love (Om Bhakti Yam)
by davidji
Unconditional love: pure, boundless, and whole. It's that state where the goal is benefiting the other without benefit to the self. We give our love freely.

Hello,
This is davidji and welcome to today's meditation.
Unconditional love.
Pure,
Unfettered,
Boundless,
And whole.
We call it true love.
Forever and unchanging.
When we think of the four loves,
First is affection,
Then is friendship,
Next is romance,
And then comes unconditional love.
In psychology,
Unconditional love is that state where the goal is benefiting another without any thought to benefiting the self.
Unconditional love is pure and selfless.
In conditional love,
The love is earned by conditions being met,
By the person being loved.
In unconditional love,
We give our love freely,
No matter what,
Without any thought to whether it comes back or not.
Unconditional love is beyond being loved back or any reward for the behavior of giving the love.
In many religions,
Unconditional love is the love God has for a person,
Whether or not that person loves God back.
In the Bhagavad Gita,
Krishna speaks of bhakti yoga,
The unconditional devotion one needs to attain oneness or merge with the divine.
So let's get comfortable.
Let's close our eyes,
Take a long,
Slow,
Deep breath in,
And gently let that go.
And feel yourself relax,
Soften,
Melt,
Surrender.
And now bring to mind someone close to you,
Your core relationship,
Your boyfriend,
Girlfriend,
Lover,
Child,
A parent or sibling,
Your spouse,
Or any loved one that is core to you.
Move them into your mind's eye.
Slowly breathe in and envision conditions or limits you have on your love for them.
And gently let go and begin to reflect on this person for a few moments.
And at a certain point,
You may realize that you love them on the condition that they act a certain way,
Make a certain amount of money,
Believe in the same things you do,
Agree with you,
Wear certain clothes,
Behave,
Respond,
Or look a certain way.
Do you see how these very logical conditions can constrict your heart,
Even though they seem like practical aspects of a balanced relationship?
And breathe in deeply now and let that go.
Can you see that conditions like this are actually demands that someone be a certain way so your needs can be met?
And now release all these thoughts and envision giving this person total freedom to be exactly who they are,
Accepting fully all aspects of their being.
Does that shift anything inside of you?
How does it make you feel?
Does it change how you feel about them?
Now envision the aspects of their being that make you smile,
The qualities within them that you love,
A certain trait that you admire and truly love about them.
And breathe that feeling into your heart right now.
And feel it flow in and out.
Now see them as an innocent baby,
Vulnerable,
Blameless,
Guiltless,
Defenseless,
Pure,
Perfect,
And whole.
And breathe that in and gently exhale.
And as you breathe in,
Feel your sweetness for them,
Feel your essence.
And let it go.
As you breathe in and out,
Feel your unconditioned bhakti for them,
Filling you,
Filling every part of you with celebration and gratitude,
Deep love.
Feel it fill you.
And gently release that.
And now just allow that experience to fill you from head to toe,
Every cell in your body,
Every pore of your skin,
Every fiber of your being.
Let them fill with bhakti,
Devotion,
Unconditional love,
Celebration,
And gratitude.
Now imagine as you breathe in and feel your heart fill so boundlessly,
Feel it expand with radiant acceptance and love them in this moment,
Regardless of what they do or don't do for you.
Imagine them not being with you or even being available to meet your needs,
Yet you love them so unconditionally.
As you breathe in,
Feel this overwhelming love surge into you.
And as you exhale,
Shower them with that same love.
In this light of pure,
Unconditional love,
Accept them fully and stay in this space for a few moments.
And as you gaze upon them,
They transform into a magnificent,
Beautiful bird.
You've never seen such a gorgeous bird before.
It's the most exquisite being you've ever witnessed.
Your heart fills with total joy as you gaze into its eyes and it gazes back with sweet innocence and curiosity.
It sits perched right next to you and stays for the longest time.
You feel totally connected to this wonderful bird in this precious,
Sacred moment.
And suddenly you feel the wind gently caress your cheek and as it does,
The bird flies away and disappears into the forest.
You are so grateful for having the opportunity to share this time with this holy being.
And you are so happy to know it exists in your life.
You are thankful for your time together,
So satisfied.
And now let's go deeper into this experience of unconditional love by drifting into stillness and silence together.
We'll use the mantra,
Om Bhakti Yam.
Om Bhakti Yam.
Om Bhakti Yam.
Om is the vibration of oneness.
Bhakti is the vibration of unconditional love.
And Yam is the vibration of the heart chakra,
The Anahata,
Your heart center.
Om Bhakti Yam.
Om Bhakti Yam.
As you repeat the mantra,
You may drift away to thoughts,
Sounds,
Or physical sensations.
That's okay.
But as soon as you realize you've drifted away from the mantra,
Ever so gently drift back to Om Bhakti Yam.
I'll watch the time and when you hear me ring the chime,
Just sit gently with your eyes closed.
So let's begin.
Om Bhakti Yam.
Sit gently with your eyes closed and let the stillness and silence settle in.
And now take a long,
Slow,
Deep breath in.
And let that go.
Let's do that one more time.
Long,
Slow,
Deep breath in.
And gently release.
And now let's seal this Bhakti,
This unconditional love,
By chanting the hymn of the universe one time together.
Om.
Take a long,
Slow,
Deep breath in.
Om.
Now when it feels comfortable,
You can slowly open your eyes.
You can look around at the tens of thousands of sweet Bhakti,
Unconditional lovers that you've shared this collective consciousness with.
Om Bhakti Yam.
Feel the ripples of unconditional love flow through you as you move throughout your day.
And as you gaze upon someone you love or reflect upon another sentient being,
Allow Om Bhakti Yam to bubble up until you are smiling.
From the sweet spot of the universe,
This is David G.
Wishing you a beautiful day filled with Bhakti,
Unconditional love.
I'll see you in the gap.
Namaste.
